Re-enabling Daytime Running Lights.

Featured Replies

Prior to collecting my new car 6 months ago I asked that the DRLs be disabled (due to my concerns about battery drain). I have now decided to re-enable them...but find that I cannot!

According to the owners manual I should be able to do it in either of two ways...

1. Via the MFD, `Settings` > `Light and Vision` > `Daytime Lights`. Trouble is, there is no mention in the list of `Daytime Lights`.

2. Using the turn signal stalk. That doesn't work either.

I've contacted my `Local` dealer (3 hr round trip) but they want to book it in, giving the impression that its a big job!

Any ideas, chaps?

Many thanks.

Mike.

I think its missing in the MaxiDot because your dealer has deactivated it by coding. Its a 5 minutes job for your dealer to re-enable the DRL.

Why would you think the DRL´s would drain your battery?!

I'm sure it's recodable thru VCDS if it doesn't appear in your Maxidot menu - never used VCDS so can't comment.

Where in the world are you, there could be a member local to you with VCDS who could code it back if that;s the issue.

It;s a 5 min job to do!!

Click on the link in my signature and contact someone local to you with VCDS who will re-activate the for you.

What the dealer should have done is just turned them off in the maxidot, you could of then re-enabled them if/whenever you wanted to.

Misguided!

Many many years ago my cars often failed due to a depleted battery. I've never had DRLs before, so assumed they might drain the battery and its something I can do without...hence my request that the dealer disable then during the PDI.

I am now a little wiser (thanks to some very helpful and knowledgeable chaps on here), and am therefore wanting them re-enabled.

Regards.

I live near Skegness. Dealers in Lincoln, Peterborough, Kings Lynn and Grimsby. They are ALL about the same distance from me. I bought the car from Peterborough, so I'll drive down there tomorrow and get them to sort it. I'm relieved its just a 5 min job.

Regards.

Yeah, I'm sure you're right, Gismo...they've removed it from my Maxidot completely.

I'm gonna drive down to my supplying dealer (Peterborough) tomorrow and get them to sort it.

Many thanks.

As a post scrip to this...

With the dealer plugging his device into my car to re-enable the DRLs, is there any chance that doing so could have any negative effect on other parts of the car? Y-see, I have had new maps installed and I wouldn't want to loose them...I'd rather not have the lights if that was a real possibility.

Any advice would be most welcome, as always.

Many Thanks.

Mike.

On mine you turn the ignition on pull the indicator stalk toward you and press down and hold for 3seconds and it bongs and that's them off and to turn them on do the same thing but push the stalk up I turned mine off yesterday

The dealer would have to get things very very wrong to even get close to the engine map. It'll be fine.

The dealer would have to install a disc into the Columbus to update (or downgrade in your case) the FW or maps.

It will be fine.

Or indeed the Columbus maps, a very different area of the software. I'm not at all sure they could delete them from the VCDS connection at all to be honest, I think they would need to be poking CDs in the front of the Columbus itself.
