Adjusting JOM rear coilovers

Featured Replies

Ive just had a set of JOM coilovers fitted to my Octy estate. My mate who fitted them said the rears were impossible to adjust on the car due to the tension the spring is under.

Should I be able to just take the wheel of and wind the adjusters ok like all my other cars?

Hope that makes sense

Thanks guys

My rears were a real bitchon the hatch. Your best bet is to get a hammer and chisel and bash the rings round. Either that or get some spring compressors and adjust them with those taking the load

or.. rather than mashing your rings up with a hammer and chisel, you could undo the lower shock bolt and that will release tension. adjust, and do it back up!

+ 1 for me too. I jack both sides rear up, undo shock bottom bolts, springs fall out, and ou can just twist your wrist.

Does the rear beam drop down too, or is it as simple as thst sounds? One bolt then the shock/spring is free? I'll be doing one side at a time.

if you do one side at time it wont drop, as it has the arb in built. and one side will hold other up, you may be able to push it down against the resistane though, enough to get some slack

I didnt realise they would be this much of a pain!

Im used to mk2/mk3 golf platforms that are simple to adjust!

I'll jack it up and have a play tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice guys

I did mine with everything all bolted up in place but car was 6ft in air on a 2 poster ramp with weight off wheels so that made things alot easier,

You can drop one side down at a time it all won't fall to bits then but you will have to use tool to adjust it though

yeh you can do 1 side at a time mate. :)

You should be able to just take tension off shock and spring by jacking car up one side at a time as this will relieve the pressure from the compressed spring. Make sure you keep the platforms and rings well lubricated to avoid seizure.

not a good idea as will just make a mess and the next time will be impossible to adjust, worst case split the platform and then game over.

All sorted now guys. Once jacked up there was enough slack in the spring to enable me to adjust the platforms

Thanks for the help
