Fabia vrs alloys

Featured Replies

Can anyone help me?

I'm looking for more grip on vrs.

I have been told I can replace my original 16 alloys with 17 alloys?

Any recommendations on alloys & tyres that won't effect my speedo reading?

Cheers

When changing from 16" to 17" wheels it is just a point of choosing the right tyre size so that the overall circumference does't change and the speedo is still accurate.

For example 205/55/16 tyres on 16" 6J wheels will have near enough the same circumference as 225/45/17 tyres on 17" 7j wheels so will not effect the speedo but you will get a bigger contact area so more grip.

On the other hand simply choosing better more grippy tyres for your existing wheels might have just as good a result.

surely gripper tyres are the answer if you put crap tyres on 17's it will handle as poor as if u have crap tyres on 16's.....

remember the tyres are the only part of the car that keep in contact with the road

you can do what ever you want rarb, poly bushing, larger wheels ...... but with crap tyres it will not improve your situation greatly

also if you are changing wheel sizes use an online converter to check how much it will alter your speedo

e.g.

205 - 45 - 16

the 45 aspect ratio is a percentage of the 205 soo..... putting 215 - 45 - 16's would slightly effect the speedo

Instead of spending money on replacement 17" alloys and tyres buy some decent 16" tyres and fit a rear anti roll bar - mine now handles like its on rails !

Indeed, changing the size does not automatically give more grip. More grip is gained from better tyres and handing mods like suspension, ARBs, bushes, etc

If you are going to sell your 16''s then let me know!

As others have noted it's the tyres that are the crucial element here. Just buy some good ones and save your money.

I disagree only because Spiders BELONG on the Fabia lol

Hiya everyone thanks for your help...

Next question can you recommend good grippy tyres then?

Price not too much of an issue.

Anti rolls bars?

Also any advice on remapping?

I'm in north herts.

Toyo Proxes seem to be one of the preferred tyres for dry weather. Search ebay around £280 delivered for 4 brand new 205 45 16s. Cant find any better than that.

& how about dry & wet weather all year round tyres?

ive got pirelli p zero nero and they seem extremely grippy although very expensive too

they have worked well all year round from heat wave to snow lol

I had kumho on mine - they are really grippy but fairly soft so they wear quickly - I am now trying barum - so far, after a track day and about 100 road miles they appear to do the job - IMO alot depends on your individual driving style

I find Toyo Proxes T-1Rs very good in the wet too....

Has anyone got any experience with Michelin pilot sport 3's?

Pricey good write up but are they any good on a fabia vrs?

Running barum barvauis 2 for the second time. Great tyres. I've read Proxes where designed for 4wds which is why they wear quickly on fwd.

I think you're getting confused here - the Proxes name refers to a whole range of different tyres - there are 4x4 versions - it's the suffix that matters.

Surely it's something like the Toyo Proxes T1 Sport SUV that you've been reading about:

"With excellent motorway speed stability and precise handling on wet or dry roads, Proxes T1 Sport SUV answers the need for an Ultra High Performance tire for these executive cars."

... not the Toyo Proxes T1-R:

"Designed for sportscars, powerful saloons and coupes, Proxes T1-R meets the need for high-speed stability and excellent handling in dry and wet conditions, while retaining low noise and optimum driving comfort.

This new tire takes advantage of modern design technology and provides stable steering response and traction thanks to the improved tread pattern design, resulting in superb braking performance as well as improved wear resistance."

Cheapest options :-

1) Fit decent tyres. Uniroyal Rainsports are good for general driving but IMO have too soft a sidewall for driving on the door handles. Would suggest Conti sport 2s but they seem "rare" now in our sizes. Pirelli P zero Nero or P zero also good.

2) Fit a Whiteline or Jabba (or H&R?!?) rear anti roll bar.

I've read it on here before and other forums. The tr-1's or the one before them where designed for 4wds (evos, imprezas etc) maybe be wrong. But. Just what I've read.
