Need advice on replacement wheels

Featured Replies

Apologies first, this is for a Rav4.

Having found out how awful the wife's car is in the snow I am looking to get some winter tyres (for next winter) as she will be travelling around the Peak district quite a bit.

I would want to put them on a spare set of wheels but not sure what the options are for the Rav. The OEM wheels are 18" alloys but I know that other Ravs have smaller wheels. A brief internet search shows up lots of possible alloys (starting at £300 for a set without tyres) but extremely limited on steel options.

Is there an issue with steels on a big tyre? Or are Alloys the only realistic way forward?

Been looking at gumtree and ebay but unsurprisingly not much about at present. Astheics is not a real issue, more concerned about getting a useable rim to put a decent set of tyres on.

Been thinking about doing te same for SWMBO Altea too. I've found mytyres.co.uk useful as they do 'complete wheel' options. Youmight not get them from here but it'll give you some good ideas of what options you have

Did check them out and I think that is where the £300ish alloys came from. But not really bothered about alloys just couldn't find very much about steels. As I am looking at tyres for next season I'm quite happy to go with second hand wheels and put a decent set of tyres on. Given the size I will need to match the rolloing diameter of the oem tyres they will be around £150 a corner so the price for a set of wheels is relevant.
