Really loud knock on heavy breaking or acceleration.

Featured Replies

This noise started a while back but only came one in a blue moon. Now it's every time. It's a really loud almost bang. Sounds like it's coming from front passage ger side. Any ideas?

it could be the pads worn and not sitting right and need changing try looking at them first and check the caliper sliding bolts are not siezed hth..

It would be very different to pin that down as could be lot's of things.

As you say noticeable on braking or acceleration, then maybe loose or worn suspension components.

Suspension top mounts.

Wishbone bushes

ARB drop links

Brake caplier seizing

Subframe bushes

Bottom Ball Joint on Hub to Wishbone

Engine or gearbox mounts very worn

get someone to drive it and check the noise as they brake or accelerate passed you.

Iv tried a lot if those man all that's left to replace is ball joint and top mounts,

I would favor ball joints then. Those noises are a pain. I have the same noise and also happen's when turning out of driveway or from a car park space.

Have bought ball joints to fit as replaced the rest. hope it cures mine too.

i had this once. Turned out to be the 3 bolts that hold the wishbone to the ball joint. They were loose. Tightened them up (replaced them with nylon lockers) and the knocking was gone. :)

Really? Come to think of it I had the wishbone replaced bout a year ago. Hhhmmmmmmm a seed has been planted

Reading this thread with interest. My car knocks when turning at a slow speed usually from around full knock. Also does it whilst turning if the suspension gets compressed...but only occasionally. I thought it was bushings initially as I had them replaced a week before it started but I'm thinking brake pads/discs were done as well.

check the top of the springs not broken thats another common one ;-)

That sounds like the suspension strut top bearing that the top mounts sit on. If they get seized or worn that puts binding pressure on the strut tops , and eventually snaps the spring.

I had a really annoying knocking / clicking sound on mine, sorted it by greasing the CV joints up, worth a try.
