Front brakes sticking symptoms

Featured Replies

Thought I had front sticking brakes, as it feels to stop and not roll as it used to at lights!

When last jacked up thought it was more so NSF.

As today was my first available day to look into this due to weather I jacked up to investigate!

As soon as I got the wheel off the weather changed!

So quick look, wheel seemed tight to turn when jacked up, then with wheel off tried to turn the disc, very tight, obviously not as good a hold and less leverage.

Prised the caliper away to release the disc from the pads.

No improvement!

So guess they aren't sticking but something else must be tight!!

Is theisnormal, anyone else had this!

Any advice much appreciated,

Thanks

the car wasnt in gear was it ?

No but it had that feel about it!

It's an 07 se if that helps?

just checking lol

any other symptoms wheel bearing play? howling etc?

No howling, noticed a squeaking but presumed just pads!

Hopefully get chance to have another look tomorrow between rain!

Cheers for replys

Could also be the piston seals in the caliper that go hard with age.......get a new set of seals for about £15 from the dealers and fit.....will need to refill and bleed the brake fluid thou......and refitting the piston can take abit of fiddling to get the new dust skirt fitted!

Thanks, I thought this first but like I say I relieved the pads from the disc and still tight!!

I'm thinking maybe bearing???

if the pads were released from the disc it wouldnt be the caliper. although it could possibly be a cv joint if the boot has split and run dry? or possibly the wheel bearing

Take it to MOT station to check braking efficiencies, on the rolling road??

Thanks for advice guys will try get a slot tomorrow! Maybe they will be able to advise further!!

I'm just back in from my garage, exact same symptoms. Ended up that the top caliper mount thread was stripped in the hub, causing the caliper to shift under braking, and the piston was corroded all to buggery, along with the weather seal being all perished. A helicoil repair (M9 x 1.25) took care of the caliper mount, and I've cleaned the piston up as much as possible. Its all back together and working fine, though it's a complete caliper overhaul (or just a new caliper) as soon as possible...
