Hi guys. I have a slight knock on the front suspension of my MK2 VRs Octavia. Any ideas? I have had 2 early VRs's and they both had anti roll bar bush problems. Do these suffer with the same? Colin

Yep, chances are it will be the drop links.

lol, best of luck finding it, getting a slight knock passenger front, ive replaced drop links, track rods and the ends, fitted new springs and dampers and ARB bushes... still knocking, i fear it could be the steering rack.

also check the wishbone rear console bushes as these tend to go around 100k and a common weakness on VAG cars

Check all the wishbone bushes. Mine looked ok but changing them has made a world of difference. The front ones had started to break up internally. Just over half an hour per side to change.

Mine is doing the same,but has only done 10,000,started doing it after first service

Had two Octy's both had varying degree of suspension knocking/rumbling, particularly on the left. Going over speedbumps and potholes or anything that juddered the car triggered it. Garage had it three times and couldn't identify it, changes droplinks and rollbar and even shocker to no avail. Desperate, took it to KWIKFIT and the guy immediately pointed out the wishbone/console (not sure which) bushes were worn. Like in the picture (http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e138/MoggyTech/DSCF0726.jpg), but with big creases and cracks in the black rubber. Asked for £60 for part and labour. Hope this helps.

i thought i would add to this thread rather than create a new one , i have the mystery knocking from the nsf on my vrs, i changed the rear suspension arm console bushes to meyle hd version hoping this would cure it, but its still knocking so i have ordered the subframe spacers and bolts from awesome gti failing that i will try new drop links, it had a service at skoda only a month ago plus an mot and they did not pick anything up apart from perished rear bump stops btw the cars is a 2007 60k 

Im getting same issue iv changed droplinks to meyle hd ones but no change. i thought i might change rear console bush to meyle hd or febi ones for an s3 semi voided ones. If not that then maybe top mounts and bearings. Im not wanting to chuck money with changing bits just because it might be. But seems a common issue on these cars with these annoying knocks but would just like to build a better idea of what it might be. Im due for mot on tuesday so might get garage to take a look

I have same issue.

Click clunk i have had new shocks,springs,bumpstops,top mount's and bearings,driveshafts,wheel bearings,droplinks.

Next is rear console TT bushes and the one in the arm itself.

 

All above were genuine parts.

I have two of the rubber air box grommets broken so that's loose I will fix that but I don't think that's the cause of the knocking as I have noticed it never knocks while braking over the same bumps it usually knocks on when driven over without braking

I have this too, also near side front, but only occasionally. VAG specialist who did my last service couldn't find anything, neither did Skoda when the previous owner to me queried with them a couple of years ago.

Doesn't bother me as so infrequent.

I did notice when the car has been jacked up it stops knocking for a few miles

ChristophVRS my issue with knocking noise exactly mirrors yours i think. same age and mileage car. i think must be in the strut mounts the noise is coming from. I find it at worst when car has been driven a few miles.
