BMW 116i no power to drivers door controls

Featured Replies

SWMBO's beemer has developed an odd fault.

None of the controls on the drivers door work, windows or mirrors. Light on the child window lock is also dead.

Passenger window works fine.

Rear windows don't but the child lock might have been on before it stopped working.

Seems like a plug has popped off somewhere but can't see anything obvious.

Car is under warranty but thought I'd check here for in case there is a simple fix.

Could be damaged wiring in the loom that runs into the door?

Could be. The cable carrier tube didn't look pinched but yes could be something like that.

Not sure if it applies to the 1-series, but I've read that on the bigger ones a faulty circuit board/motor in the mirrors can lead to this behaviour. Apparently holding down the buttons on the panel for a significant time (can be > 1 minute) can show some signs of life but a battery/ECU reset is also worth a try.

Quick Google turned this up:

As it's under warranty, it may just be a case of handing it over to the dealer and letting them resolved it (and hope that they have a good supply of parts in stock) :D

I'm thinking door loom or faulty circuit board in door too.

Cheers. Yes unless it's something very simple it'll be going into the dealer shortly.

Sounds like switch pack is kaput

Had a similar issue with the works fiat scudo 2 years ago. Drivers window controls not working. Took it out and found the circuit board of the switch was corroded due to rock salt that I was putting down on the drive during the bad snow couple of years ago as I was putting a blanket over the screen I dropping the window in order to put on easier and then hitting the window controls from outside to close it

She didn't phone BMW yesterday. Suppose I'll have to do it for her as usual.

When she had a Tigra she couldn't be bothered to take it in for a recall and that was for cars going on fire.
