Coilovers

Featured Replies

What coilovers are you running? and what sort have drop have you gone for?

Cheers

FK Highsport, low, about 90mm drop, lowest drop without constant rubbing the driveshaft.. (Without notch) more to go on the coils :)

Having to go for VMaxx coilies, did want a 90 drop, but told they only go to 70

old vrs: weitec hicon gt, initially -45mm but the ride suffered and it was catching speed bumps, revised to -35mm ish which rode better and had just enough ground clearance. I did 70k miles on that setup with no issues.

new vrs: bilstien b16, only been on a week and not set up yet.

-45mm looks like this:

Dragging this one back up to see if there any updates. Coilovers will be going on soon but still undecided about what. Don't want to go mega low but I don't think the ~20mm drop that springs and shocks will give me would be low enough.

Weitecs would be top of my list but they seem to have gone up in price recently and are now hovering around the £750/£800 mark which is too much. The FK Highsports are top of the list then as they're half the price of the Weitecs, go silly low if I wanted to but I'm slightly worried about some of the mk5 Golf boys reporting them being a bit bouncey. This is the daily and often will be filled with bikes/surf boards/holiday gear/the mini-mes etc so don't want the ride to be compromised but then my current shocks are 80k old...

Other option is, as mentioned above, springs and shocks which I'm guessing will retain my ride, give me a subtle drop but not sure whether they'll give me enough. Escpecially if phase 2 of my plan with the car happens!

Vogtlands (?) look nice - any reports on those?

I recently removed my Bilstein B16 and replaced them with H&R Monotubes, much better ride quality and more suited to the type of driving I do.

I thought the weitecs on the last car were very good, and they'll definitely work for the sort of use you're describing.. But I think they are looking expensive now - my H&R weren't that much more and you get a stainless Bilstein damper and Monotube design so probably worth the extra outlay?

Where abouts are you? No problem if you wanted to have a ride in mine before you commit.

:)

Just seen some wetec hicon gt coilovers for £581 brand new from lk performance, and also the ap coilovers are only £404 off them.

Pretty cheap i reckon.

Cheers for those links. That place is only 20 minutes drive from mine... Right, now to go all out persuading the wife that coilovers are a good idea!

I've put my Bilstein B14 coilovers into the sales section on here. £900 RRP, been on the car 50 weeks and looking for £600 ono
