Featured Replies

After my previous question drew no answers as an update today had some different symptoms

Car still sounding louder on tickover , but also stuttering a bit in 2nd and 3rd in low rev range

3rd gear at 38 mph and 2000 rpm it faltered a few times. and noticed black smoke out of rear window

Did this a bout 5 times in a 5 mile city run. finally found a quiet road and sunk foot to 4500 rpm up steep hill

Bit of smoke for a start which cleared and car was doing 60mph by 3/4 way up hill so seemed to pull ok

Thought i heard a knocking noise but this disappeared so may have imagined it ?

when i got home car still noisy on tickover correct revs as usual though, could have swore i saw a little

Smoke come from under offside front wheel arch ? but didnt do it again. though car did have a burny smell about it

but as i had just gave it at bit of a roast not sure if that caused that ?

am off work at moment after operration last week so cant really go tearing of covers. to see whats what?

And just to make matters worse , when reversing out of doctors tiny carpark caught front bumper on high kerb

And tore it free at n/side bumper not broke but is hanging down an inch and a half so have to fix that too

Any idea's PLEASE

Could be many things from knackered turbo to a split intercooler line. I'd suggest you start by checking all hoses and pipes for leaks.

Check leaks and go drive with VAG-COM, to see what the sensors are telling you. Most probably you can help from VAG-COM specialist.

Could it possibly be the clutch start car and put foot on clutch see if it makes a difference to the noise from the car

May sound stupid but when you knocked the car you may have damaged something and it is now touching the road surface resulting in noise & burning smell. As for the stuttering I would defiantly check for leaks.

Thanks for replies. i think the last comment might have some thing to it

As engine management light now litso wonder if i have done some damage

to intercooler pipes as that is area of car i believe its in. might get chance to look tomorrow .. would management light come on for intercooler pipes though ???

If you have a leak in pipes, then it will result in VAG-COM also.

I just don't understand, why people are asking answers to problems that can be checked in VAG-COM (it looks the same in every VAG forum). First thing, if I have some problems, I will connect my cable and check for trouble codes. It will save a lot of time and most probably I will get the answer to my problem in minutes. For example, car shuttered and check engine light was on. Connected cable, saw that there was a leak in turbo system. Checked for tubing and found broken tube in 7 minutes.

Don't be afraid of VAG-COM, it isn't that horrifying thing.

Yes, unless there was only a small issue it would as the metered airflow into the inlet tract would vary from what was actually ingested, meaning the fuelling would be off. The manifold pressure would also drop if there was a leak; boost loss would also cause an EML.

Echo the sentiments on VCDS; if there's no one nearby even VCDS-Lite will be of use to you and it will pay for itself pretty quickly if you're doing taxi miles.

Not everyone has access to VAG-COM.

True, but if you're doing taxi-mileage and especially if you do your own servicing or wish to work on your car yourself, it's not worth not investing at least in VCDS-Lite. For $99 it's going to cost less than having your car scanned for codes a couple of times.

Or, contact a local member who does have VCDS.
