Octavia Mk2 1.9 tdi bad starting when warm

Featured Replies

Hello my mate has a octy 1.9 tdi 105 bhp starts fine when cold but cranks over for a while when warm has anyone any idea? drives and mpg fine otherwise. Mine starts just the same warm or cold. many thanks.

I believe this has previously been traced to one of two faults.

Either the battery is passed its best, or failing that the starter motor is on its way out.

Basic theory is that when warn the engine needs to achieve a particular turn over rate before fuel is injected which the dodgy battery/starter cannot easily achieve. Whereas when cold, fuel is injected immediately.

I have the same engine and was experiencing exactly the same problems you describe. I changed the battery and its been fine since.

Hope this helps.
