Alternator belt tension

Featured Replies

The alternator flywheel on my Octavia 1,6 2002 broke loose. I changed the complete alternator and alternator belt. But after putting it all back together I can't help noticing that the tensioner pulls all the way out, even though its a new belt. The tension of the belt seems fine when twisting the belt with my fingers. But it looks to me like theres a very slim clearing where the belts passes itself below the alternator.

Does this sound right, or am I right to wory?

Please let me know if I need to describe my concern further, as english isnt excactly my first language.

Could the damper on the tensioner be knackered?

I am not familiar with the 1.6 so I'll ask a silly question - are you sure you got the routing of the belt correct?
