Could not resist a re map

Featured Replies

Superchips have a 20% reduction at the moment and have treated myself to a remap

Did it last year and it was awesome...

Deciding to keep the car for a while so I will enjoy the extra 40+ BHP

to quote a post from Brad 1.8T

Folks,

I was recently involved in remapping a 1.8TSI manual using the Bluefin System

We didn't have access to a dyno & driving experience is more important than a graph, so we did some timing.

Pulls like an even bigger train & the weird light throttle lurch has gone from the transition from off-boost to boost at 1500rpm. IOW, driveability is even better than before.

80-120kph in 3rd takes 4.5 seconds (quicker than a Boxter S)

40-120kph in 3rd is improved by 2seconds /18%

40-140kph in 4th is improved by 1 second / 6%.

Fuel consumption under similar driving patterns/conditions is maybe 0.2L/100km worse

How did you measure the timings?

I ask as I've tried using a couple of phone apps, which only work when starting from rest - I'm more interested in 30-70 times than standing starts, I've not managed to find a GPS timer that will simply trigger when the start and finish speeds are crossed, irrespective of how long you have been below the trigger threshold speed.

I just realised this doesn't make much sense....time for bed maybe!

I really would like to get mine done, both superchips and shark claim a healthy

170-175hp and 290lb/ft torque for my car... /drool

Go for Shark, Ive had both and the Superchips map feels much better than the standard car but the Shark maps feel much better than the Superchips (and even REVO) map imo!

The 1.8TSi really does do well on a stage 1 map, especially in making the higher gears more useable. :)

Yep, Shark really did take my fancy to be honest, £349 I think it is for my vehicle.

Can the Shark be removed easily?

Thats why the Blu fin suits me, just take it with me?

Yes, takes a few minutes with their STS unit.

You cant take it with you to another car if thats what you mean? In terms of portability, Shark have the STS unit. :)

The Blufin handset can be reset by Superchips and taken to another car. It's free if less than a year old.

Thats news! They started charging so much for a reset it wasnt far off the cost or a new Bluefin so Im pleased they've re thought that stategy. :)

Yeah, I might go full STS route to be honest - means I can remove when I want to.

Can I apply the map to an identical car though? Or is it tied to a single vehicle.

STS unit is tied to a single vehicle at a time and the maps are VIN coded, so can't be transferred between cars.

I see - what if I wanted to map two completely different cars with one unit (I.e. let's say 1 Ford and 1 VW)

Then I'm afraid you need 2 units, the unit locks to the car until that car is returned to standard (something set by the manufacturer of the unit, as the multiple use version of the tool costs a lot more).

That's OK - it was a passing thought.

Am definitely interested in remapping mine, just need to get the funds together first :)

I love reading peoples post remap posts on here  MPG is more something that time and your new found enthusiasm will tell. I have never found much of a difference, for long runs a marked improvement though in my experience.

Enjoy the new stealth Octy

+1

It never ceases to induce a grin though. Mpg is never more than your right foot, any more than your license is. TSi engine responds well, so I've heard...

Well for me the remap is more about the 30-70mph wallop you get in 3rd ,rather than the traffic light grand prix.

I have yet to encounter a similar car that can get anywhere close to me when I floor it
