earlier on today i was in east kilbride got a hire over there so just decided to stay there seen a off licence so decided to jump in and get the carryout. went in came out put it in the boot. BUT i opened the boot with the boot button on the key and sat the key in the boot whilst i shoved it up the back of the boot, was closing the boot looked inside and and realized the keys were still in there :'( luckily it wasn't the full way shut, so got the keys out and opened the rest of the doors, will remember not to do that again, anyone else nearly or been caught out by this feature dont think the boot should lock again if you have opened the boot with the boot button.

If you have kessy, you can't lock the keys in the car. If the car senses the key inside, it will unlock again and display a message on the dash.

If you don't have kessy, then yes, you can lock the keys in the car by locking the car then shutting the boot. Or by having the car already locked, opening the boot, then putting the keys in and closing the boot.

If you only open the boot using the middle button it will lock again when it is closed, though if you have a KESSY system then you should be able to open the boot using the normal boot button on the car due to the proximity of the key.

Wokwon, you beat me but you also gave a better answer.

don't have kessy but sure would be handy not worrying about locking your keys in the ar

I use my pockets to avoid this, key fob goes straight back in if opening small boot using remote. So far no problem

The other possibility is to unlock the car on the fob, before opening the boot on the fob, Kind of defeats the object, but less risky if you forget.

If the drivers door isnt opened the car will relock after i think 30 seconds

Any door, in fact.

Yes the car does lock if door isn't opened. as mentioned in my previous post my keys have never been locked in my pocket by mistake

Does the car still relock if the boot / tailgate is opened? I didn't think it did, that's why I mentioned it. I'll try my Superb and Roomy to see what they do.

Reminds me of a time my dad came to help with some DIY some time ago. He turned up, looked at what we were doing, then opened the boot of his car and chucked his jacket in, with the keys in the pocket. As he realised, he just looked at me and I burst out laughing. He got to borrow my car to go back home for the spare set. Whenever I open just the boot I always out of habit first unlock the whole car just incase as it gives you the time to get in

Only did this once, in 1983. I was staying for a couple of weeks with a friend and her family in West Hollywood, a residential area between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. On my last evening, my friend and I drove down to Key Biscayne for a meal, me driving her step-dad's Buick Century. Heading back north on I-95, passing Liberty City, an area of Miami where there had been some horrendous riots, I got a puncture. I managed to change the wheel OK, but then proceeded to lock the keys in the boot, and there was no way of accessing it without them. Sat for a pretty nervous 45 minutes waiting for her mum to come down with a spare set. There was a gun in the glove compartment, and another under the passenger seat - don't know if my friend or I would have used them if we were threatened!

I've done it with a VW touran hire car in France. And a hire Zafira in Ireland...

I did this whilst putting my boots on for a walk, in the middle of Sherwood Forest. Car was a BMW 3-series convertible. The front doors were still unlocked, but because the rear seats didn't fold down I couldn't climb into the boot. Had to wait a couple of hours for the rescue car to come and pop the boot for me. He said he had just run the same errand for someone doing the same thing in a supermarket car park.

It happened to me in Wales on holiday 2 years ago had to break the small back passenger window and get my niece to get into the boot that window took some smacks of a wheel brace lol i was cracking learned my lesson me thinks lol
