Octavia just died and won't start!

Featured Replies

Hiya.

My skoda octavia was runing fine this morning when i did the tip run. Got back in it to nip into town and got 5 mins around the corner the car just died. I pulled over and tried to start it and it turns over but does not fire up.

All the electrics work but the engine light stays on.

I have had the turbo playing up on me with the overboost fault and am due to get a new turbo put on it on wednesday.

Got it towed home by a mate but gonna have to get the RAC to come out and pick it up to take it to a garage

Any ideas on what it could be?

Meddy.

Best to see what the rac say,it could be a snapped timing belt or out of fuel? or a fault with the immobillizer.

If its a fault with the immobilizer will disconnecting the battery sort that out?

Worth a try! when the engine spins over is it turning over very quickly?

Engine turns over normally but doesn't fire up. I checked the cigarette lighter fuse before setting off this morning. This might have affected the immobilzer so will disconnect the battery for 30 mins. This wouldn't explain why it started and i was able to drive about 400m before it cut out.

Maybe you disturbed another fuse or removed one by mistake & didnt put it in the correct position,if you removed a fuse that is linked to the fuel system that may explain why it ran briefly then stopped (no fuel)

yeah only took out fuse 24 for the lighter and put it back in.....Gotta feeling its do with the turbo though as its been making a siren sound for a while and goes into limp mode when overboosted.

Hmm,best get the rac to read the codes & take it from there,if your turbo had failed id expect lots of smoke from the exhaust but it would still run,the police siren noise would suggest it could be failing, let us know how you get on,hope you get it sorted.

Sorry to say it but it sounds like a failed turbo.

Sorry to say it but it sounds like a failed turbo.

Lets hope the engine hasn't ingested turbo parts.

There is another options some of the TDi's if an injector goes bad it will block the car from starting, cant remember if that is on the PD or CR version, but the official way to try and work out which injector is to try and start it with an injector unplugged at a time until your unplug the failed one and it will start and run on 3 cylinders.

Downside is you need the injector cover off the top of the engine to try it.

Not saying it isn't the turbo but it doesn't have to be that.

Good luck what ever and I hope it doesn't cot you too much.

This is definitely how it works on the pd's.

Is it a pd or cr? And if a pd, has it had the injector recall?

Sorry, ignore that just realised it is the 140 not the 170 so injector recall doesn't apply

I had a fault like this and it turned out there is a fault in the routing of the engine wireing loom where it goes round a sharp bend in the front right of the engine bay and the loom can chafe on the bend and this can screw up the signal from the engine speed sensor this will cause engine starting problems.
