Squeak / rattle. N/s dash

Featured Replies

Hello

Anyone know any common causes of squeaks on the passenger side of the dash? It sounds like the dash os moving slightly against a rubber seal or something.

It only seems to happen after 30 minutes or so of driving (so everything is up to temperature).

Initially I thought the dash end panel was not on properly but it is.

Pressing gently on the dash above the glovebox silences the noise.

There are no obviously lose dash screws/bolts.

Any thoughts are welcome, I'm going insane!

Cheers

Haha there are thousands of posts on this on here, was a real pain in the behind for me! I tried the Velcro trick between the end panel and passenger door rubber seal, didn't work to start with but seems to of cured it now ( or maybe I just have the music louder )

Thanks for the reply. I don't think it's the end panel on the door. I tried driving with the end panel off and it still squeaked :(

Had this on my last Octavia. It was the panel on the end of the dash. All I did was pop it off and spray silicone around it and it stopped the noise.

My noise was exactly the same as yours, when pressed above glovebox it stopped. This fix has solved my issue and cost me a quid or two for some Velcro from halfrauds. Job done.

HALFRAUDS cant stop laughing lol

No other name for the place! The staff crack me up- either dolled up girls or spotty teenagers that don't have a clue when you ask them about any of their products. Don't know about your local halfrauds but mine has a line up of pimped out nova/corsas/focus cars parked in the staff bays with all the crap little add ons hanging on them..... Must be staff discount lol

My halfrauds is the same, i asked the uninterested girl how long it had been since the shop had been refurbished, she replied (after thinking for few seconds) "dunno" and that was the end of that conversation. Marvellous.

I only go there for my auto glym stuff. I've started to amuse myself whilst in there- I find the youngest guy working in there and then go over and ask really strange questions. Last week I picked up two wheel cleaning brushes and asked What the pros and cons of each where. Don't know how I didn't crack up laughing as he started to look quite blank and go very red. Cruel I know but absolutely hilarious.

If you're going to work somewhere at least know what it is your selling haha

If halford employed experianced people theyd have to pay them slighty more wages for the knoladge. End if day theyre a francies like mc donalds and employ people fir minimum wage for highest profit. So people who know details or experiance on what they sell prefer to go to a better paid parts shop or trade.

Yeah I get that, don't get me wrong there's the odd member of staff that do take an interest and seem to know what their talking about. Take the bike departments- met plenty of guys in there who are bikers and have helped me out plenty of times with local routes etc.

Fair enougth. Haha. I know there is the odd few

Hi All,

I've had my Octavia for over 18 months now and have been living with this annoying squeak/rattle until enough was enough. I've silenced it before but only for a few weeks. Last night with some good weather I went to work on the the way its put together and its design. Its very flexy and you can distort the whole dash by pushing against it. With this movement inevitably comes rubbing and of course that lovely soothing squeak. Here's what I did, Remove the end panel and you will see (or should see) three torx bolts, one near the top just off near the vent pipe, one at the bottom in a tricky location and one facing you near the glove box seam/join. My rattle came from the top bolt, took it out, pushed on the dash - no squeak - at all!. Injected a little grease into where the plastic subframe meets the aluminium mount, refitted the torx bolt and had the loveliest drive into work in ages today.

Worth a try.....
