Tomtom Navigator upgrades available...

Featured Replies

Is the upgrade easy to install?

Yep, you need to delete the current map from your memory card then Tom Tom installs over itself when you have your PDA docked and stick the CD in your PC, pick some basic settings (Which it should in theory copy from your existing config) and you're away.

Stick the CD in for whichever maps you require and copy those over. Maps and Post Codes take up about 330mb IIRC so make sure you have a big enough mem' card!

My tomtom upgrade turned up today. CD has applications/data for Palm and Pocket PC. Also comes with maps of all european countries, not just Great Britain.

Am currently waiting for palm desktop to synch the files - trust palmone to have a really slow transfer app!

You could always have a look at Mapopolis peeps.

I use it pretty extensivley www.mapopolis.com and you just buy the maps you need online from the site. Infact if your travel a lot you can buy an annual subscription and that gives you unlimited downloads of global maps for the entire year. It does door to door voice prompted navigation and can be used in "stand alone" mode without a GPS, handy for walking around foreign cities.

The application is free, and you can trial maps for 30 days. It's rated by a lot of people on www.pocketgpsworld.com

I got into it from some advice on PGPSW, and have not really looked back at TomTom since.

Never know, it may fire someones rockets :)

I've got my upgrade kit, and installed it. Maps are much more up to date (M6 toll is on there). It also knows about Aylesbury!

There's some added functionality that I need to play with. The only down side is that you lose your favourites in the upgrade process:mad:.

It comes with some "plus" maps, which have the main country at full details, plus the "major roads of Europe", so you can navigate across Europe without changing maps.

More stuff as I find it!

were you upgrading from TomTom 2 Phil (only asking as i upgraded from version 3 and it kept my favourites!)

No, I was upgrading the Palm version. It's something to do with the list of favourites being kept on the palm, rather than in the PDA memory.

Not a huge problem, though.
