Only seem to have become available in the last few days. Will be ordering my upgrade at lunchtime, assuming I can find my product code! ;)

I was waiting for an email for them but I was told the upgrade from 3 to 5 is going to be 59 euros.

Yup,

Just looked at this one - will work great on my phone but I need maps for Europe, not a map for every country at 300 Euros a go - can hire a private driver for that kinda cash ;)

You'll need your product code from your CD case (do you know where it is?). Considering that the new maps are included, not a bad price.

Phil

Ordered mine today...............Good value.

If you only need GB it's good value ;)

I'll be ordering mine when I get home, as long as I can find the CD Case

Probably better with a Navman 650 if you do a lot of driving through Europe, it comes complete with street level mapping for all western europe installed on it's internal 2gig drive.

Cheers

Lee

tnx for the tip, will go check that one out :)

Ordered mine this afternoon - the upgrade page was claiming my product code hadn't been activated... although the palm version doesn't need activiation... Quick email to tomtom soon sorted that out...

Will be interesting to see how long it takes to receive the new version - is it actually available off the shelf anywhere yet?

Tom Tom state on the update that it covers street level for all of Europe. not just GB:thumbup:

Does that mean if you bought western european maps as an extra, you have to pay extra? Just been through the upgrade pages on tom tom, asking for all tom tom product codes and then came back with an upgrede fee of 118 euro!!

Got a link for the TomTom full Europe coverage? I definitely need France, Germany, Benelux, Czech republic (or whatever that's called now, sorry to those from the country who visit the forum, lemme know what it should be ;) )

Most of these kits are 400 quid minimum - annoyingly I've got a 7610 which would take TomTom Mobile but once again, UK only :(

Press release from Tomtom:

31 May 2005, UK

Ordered mine yesterday. The web site says it can take up to 5 weeks!

Phil, waiting impatiently..........

Got my TT5 upgrade today, not had much time to test it out as I only went to Hartlepool and knew where I was going anyway! The map scrolling seems a lot smoother than 3, sometimes I would take the wrong roundabout exit as the map took a while to catch up. Road names are displayed on the map.

Onlystrange thing at the minute is when you haven't got a route planned your speed stays really small and you have an acre of plain blue nothingness at the bottom of the screen.

Apart from that all the menus look a lot better and once I've messed about with it a bit more i'll be able to whinge about or praise the product in more detail.

Still waiting for mine.

Is the upgrade easy to install?

It's easy to install on the Palm platform, and I'd imagine that the PocketPc platform will be fairly simple, too.

Folks who ordered thm about a week ago are starting to receive them now -mine arrived in Barking last night, according to the UPS website. I'm hoping it'll appear today or Monday.

No idea where mine is, ordered when this thread started...might have to chase soon I think...

On a bit of an aside, there's a new ViaMichelin MapSonic upgrade available too, so you can now go from either version 2.5 or version 3.0 to version 3.1. I'm finding it generally pretty smooth in terms of recalculating when you take a detour etc. but it still crashes on the odd occasion (needs a sync with the PC to fix  but maybe more to do with the cr4pness of my PalmPC), and while the new search function allows you to look for postcodes, you can't look for non-street related things like parks or rivers.

My biggest gripe is the inaccuracy of the maps. For example, I've found private roads that are marked as public, and it's got the road layout around my house completely wrong! But the worst boo-boo I've come across so far is that the town of Glossop allegedly doesn't exist! The roads do, but if you search for the town itself, it finds some hamlet 20 miles away

As TomTom uses the same third-party mapping provider (Tele Atlas) for mainland Europe, but the Ordnance Survey for the UK, I'd be interested to hear if any TomTom users have similar mapping 'discrepancies'

Yep. Tom Tom refuse to admit that Aylesbury exists on the current version! My upgrade should be here today, so I'll try the new mp and see.

(Sorry, that's the only factoid I know about Aylesbury ;) )
