Number plate lamp screws rusted

Featured Replies

Hi

Has any one got any ideas on how to get the rusted screws out of a MK1 Octavia Est number plate lamps have a bulb that is blown and the heads on the screws are all rusted out. Can anyone help please?

Well i used a small torx bit and managed to get it, lightly tapped the torx bit with a hammer till i caught the metal enough to turn the screw

Id Soak them In wd40 then use a small flat blade screwdriver with force applied to try and loosen the screws

Hope this helps

is the rear numberplate bulbs on an estate the sidle light ones or the festoon ones, cause if it's the sidelight ones just take the back cover off and thats it

I dont have the estate I have the hatch but had exactly the same problem regarding one seized screw, WD40 was tried but with the hatch gravity isn't on your side, so we removed the back panel and changed the bulb that way, in fact we had little choice as whilst changing the bulb in the one that we could remove the lens the bulb holder fell inside the tailgate? The "we" was the other half and myself, she had small fingers so I has asked here to try to get the fiddly capless bulb out!

I presume the estate rear door has easily removable lining as well. if I ever need to change another I wont even bother trying to remove the lens.

yeah the estate has aremovable cover aswell, but i think on the estates it's the festoon bulbs, the 40mm long ones like the interior light, could be wrong but thats whats on the fabia estates, so......, glad my idea of taking the cover off worked to your advantage
