Dumb Question - Would I need full VCDS to Clear Headlamp Level Error Warning

Featured Replies

As above really - I've lived with a headlamp levelling motor warning on the dash for the best part of two years now (bulb out lamp on the dash but no error in Maxidot but flagged as a levelling motor issue when checked). However, it is MOT time soon so I'd like to clear it. Hence will I need full VCDS for this on an 07 Octy II (I'm thinking yes...)?

I'd say so - not seen this exact problem before though.

Only thing is if you clear it, how long it would be before it came back again? Would it come on when headlight operation was checked during MoT?

For your Octy II, I am pretty sure the answer is yes - CAN based.. But, to absolutely certain, since I am on the other side of the big pond, are the 7&8 characters of your VIN 1Z? If yes, full VCDS is required. If they are 1U, you could try VCDS-Lite... I'm pulling this from our VCDS Compatibility Charts.

Steve,

It only seems to come back on when braking and flashing the main beam at the same time (and possibly when doing the above when in reverse).

Bruce,

Thanks for the info - I'm in the Fabia today and haven't got the VIN for the Octy handy but will check.

(just debating whether to buy a lead etc. or try and get someone local to do it again...)

Characters 7 & 8 of my VIN are 1Z so it looks like full VCDS is needed...

Ho hum what to do - find some one or purchase a cable...

Just visit another office Mark.... ;)

He he - temoting Steve but I only seem to get to Norwich and Leeds at the moment - and occasionally Fleet Place...

May have to find an excuse to venture over the Pennines though prior to MOT time!
