Wheel Sizing issues

Featured Replies

I'm posting here as I get no responses to my questions elsewhere on the net. Ever.

I'm in negotiations with the "board of directors" to buy a set of 17" for my totally stock passat via an associate (hopefully with a tasy discount )

Current tyre size is 195/65 on R15's.

Rolling radius calcs suggest the closest match is 225/45 on R17's.

So, my question is straightforward :

Given that I'm rolling on stock, bog standard, bottom-of-the-range suspension etc, will the wider wheels look stupid? Will they stick out from under the wheel arches and rub when I go round corners?

As 225/45 tyres on R17x7 wheels are std on the V6 engined Passats I can't see that it would be a problem as long as the offset is correct.

PCD should be 5 x 112 this is your bolt fitment

You need to check "J" size of wheels you are buying as well as offset, check out

www.merityre.co.uk for their wheel fitment guide.

New passat 00 on 5x112 7J 35-45 offset

old passat up to 97 4x100 7j 35-45

passat97-on 5x112 7j 35-45 offset and yes 225/45/17 is the nearest rolling radius

Puddenchucker - i knowm, but don't the V6's run a more sporty suspension?

Phil - you're a star.

But, what does the "J" number mean?

If I'm replacing the whole wheel as well as tyre, does it still matter?

is the "J" number something to do with how it fits to the hub or am I stabbing wildly into the dark?

I think it was 7J on the wheels in question........

But I'm definitely "New passat 00 on 5x112 7J 35-45 offset"

Lovely.

Big thanks

The first thing one should change as soon as he purchases a new car are the rims. Good rims ALWAYS make a car look good, be the car ugly or pretty.

Those figures you gave seem alrite. I've seen plenty of Passats with those, it will be fine.

Well, the Passat is a bit on the ugly side, but lowered and on tasty rims should make a nice difference.........LOL

7 J is the wheel rim size i.e 7incheswide....17" is the wheel diameter

225/45`s will look fine, no different to my Octy Vrs:cool:

Phil, I thought you had 18" RS4 ones on yours?
