Remote central locking suddenly stopped working

Featured Replies

Hi

Ive got a 2005 Octavia. I locked my car from the key fob, then returned 20 mins later and the fob wasn’t unlocking the car, no buttons on the fob were affecting the car, so I opened the door and drove off. I got the batteries replaced although the old battery still had some juice in it. The buttons totally do nothing to the car. I showed a guy who connected his laptop with vcd, he said the key is programming but the module isn’t responding so he said that I need a new module, he got one of his blank fobs and tried to get that to work but no success, he says I need a new module.

Does his diagnosis sound right? If so whats the module called, is it the ‘convenience module’?

Could it be something else? I checked the fuse for the programming module, all looks ok, any ideas?

Thanks

Flat or nearly flat car battery? Known to cause a wealth of odd problems with these cars, check with multimeter

I checked the car battery with a dvm, its full 12.8V, any other suggestions anyone? Thanks

You may have already tried but... Put key in ignition and turn ignition on. Then click the lock button it should reset and lock then unlock straight away. Had this happen when the button has been pressed too many times when out of range. Could be worth a try ??

Tried that, still no success. Could it be the conveneince unit?

Another guy with snap on told me that the module is not responding, same as the vcd guy told me, so I guess I need a new module. Im told its the convenience unit that needs changing, does anyone know where the convenience unit is located on a Mk2 octavia? some say behind the glove box, but Ive looked there, there is another unit there but not the conv. unit, I cant see it under the steering wheel section either, until its hidden around the corner. Ive also been told it may be under the passenger carpet.

Does anyone know exactly where the convenience unit is please? And once changed, will snap on be able to program it or will i need the vcd man?

Thanks

There's another module you can get to from the panel in the passenger footwell connected to the dash.

I dont think that the convenience module, its much smaller than the conveneince module, strange no one seems to know?
