Reset throttle bodies

Featured Replies

Hi was wondering if there was anybody in the Huddersfield area that would be able to reset my throttle bodies. As I have just put anew cable on and cleaned them and been reading a few topics and seems they need resetting thanks in advance Si.

Hi, with no software availability all I've ever done on my felly is unhook the ecu (or battery if you wish) for a reasonable period of time, re-connect and then advance the ignition to on but don't actually start. Leave for up to around 30 secs and then fire her up. Very unscientific but seems to have done the job in my case. ;)

yer dont disconnect the ecu or throttle body with the igniton switched on though, i made the mistake of doing that 250 miles from home once when the fecking thing wouldnt start..

so long as there is no fault codes in the diagnosis memory the throttle body should self adapt after a short period of time anyway

^ Sorry yes good point Tom

sorry i should have elaborated further, the way the idle speed control works on a vdo type throttle body is using a single ended stepper motor which acts against a spring loaded lever internal to the throttle body, it basically pulses this motor a few hundred times a second at idle and this forces the throttle plate open at idle, the ecu learns over time how long the pulses are to maintain a steady idle speed, but when this 'learned' setting gets lost or changed or corrupted the ecu substitutes a generic value until it can relearn itself, however in certain circumstances such as when the ecu is unplugged whilst the igniton is one it wont reset automatically until a diagnostics function in channel 0 is carried out, what basically happens is the idle speed goes up and down like a yoyo forever more till its reset and it makes it a total pig to drive, you'll be sat at the traffic lights and the throttle will be blipping upto around 2000rpm and back to 800rpm ish on its own..

however ignore all this scaremongering, it should reset itself in time so long as there are no other problems

Cheers Tom that's what it was doing I did not have the ignition switched on when I carried the work out I did however disconnect the battery and once it was all back together connected it back up and started it but I think it may have sorted its self out so will see how it is taking the misses to work in morning cheers for the help and advice si

You can make factory reset to throttle I have done that.In a Felicia 1.3 mpi with Sims 2p Ecu.You can download free software from MOTORDIAG you can buy a cable from eBay to connect the laptop with the car and after use a software for basic adjustment for throttle body.I have done that now the car works perfect.
