2) If it's hard-wired in to come on when the ignition comes on, is it considered a modification?

Sure is.

So if a camera hooked up to automatically come on is considered a modification, what would you have made of adding locking nuts to a vehicle that didn't have them?

Yes, you can send the footage through, whether you spin off the road when driving too fast or whether you are involved in a cash for claim scam. I can only see footage being provided for the latter.

Good to see you feel that we'd only be using them in scams.

So, Sky consider an automatic camera a modification (yay more money) and it would only be used in a scam (that would be around money again).

This is exactly why the question was asked in the first place. A professional opinion.

So it seems, but it took 20 minutes after "yes we can definitely quote for one of those" to find that out.

So if it's not a modified, nor import, prestige, high performance or a van/commercial vehicle, what is it?

Are you just being a forum troll or do you really wish for me to answer this?

Odd question? I'd advise any change made to the vehicle to be disclosed to the insurer.

The question was asked on another forum whether a discount would be provided for a camera being fitted, my immediate question was: would you be happy to provide footage if you had a single vehicle accident? The universal answer was 'no'.

Why more money? Modifications do not necessarily mean increased insurance premium.

Ah the cry of "Troll". Do you feel that you can't answer the question(s) and have to make it personal then?

If you can't answer the question in any informative way, say so. I won't think anything less of you, in fact maybe more for being honest.

I should imagine that statements along the lines of "a horse ran into the road and in avoiding it I hit a tree" are greeted with about as much belief as "my dog ate my homework." Backed up by video, I should imagine it would carry a bit more weight. Considering insurance companies like to recover costs if there is a blame somewhere, footage could be useful in an incident like that.

In another discussion you said that you didn't have a camera and wouldn't have one. Why is that?

I'll be impressed when a modification actually brings the premium down.

What is classed as a modification?

Lol, seen it before. It's usually posted by people who have been backed into a corner and cannot answer any legitimate questions without resorting to personal insults.

I thank you for your honesty and professionalism, Ollie. Your input has been much appreciated and very enlightening.
