Wishing my life away..

Featured Replies

Thinking ahead (WAY ahead), I'm already thinking of the replacement for mine. At a rough guess I'll be after the replacement for mine sometime mid-2014. Will the new Fabia vRS be out by then and (hoping) will it be able to tow? Something I forgot to check when choosing the Fabia, and the ability to tow is something I really do miss. Might have to Octy - as long as its not too big! I've got used to the relatively small dimensions of the Fabia which makes it just about perfect for me; low(ish) CO2 figures, high performance, comfort and (sounds stupid but surprisingly important) easy to park anywhere.

Just seen our new company car list and currently I like whats on it - Fabia and Octy vRS (yep - the one they've just about stopped building); even some of the lower Superbs. How this will change as its "new model mania" for the next couple of years.

I know its not necessarily Fabia chat, but this car is my current benchmark... Skoda as a brand has seriously impressed me but I might have to be lured into its Spanish brethren (Exeo or Leon possibly).

The Rapid doesn't float my boat unfortunately - a saloon body style doesn't suit. Rapid vRS Estate? Then I might be tempted (especially if they keep the twincharger/DSG combo)..but only if I can fit a towbar!

Thoughts/rumours..?

I doubt the replacement vRS will show itself next year. I would of thought the Fabia III will possibly debut at the end of the year with a spring launch 2014?

My money would be on a 2015 launch at the earliest, going on the previous two generations. I'm not too keen on the new Skoda styling so far, but maybe i'll warm to it when my car comes up for trade in (Dec 15)

I've been to the skoda factory in sept (with the brisky trip) and they showed us where they will be building the fabia III, and they will be building it this year, so I expect the new vRS to be 2014.

I'm keeping my eye on this !!

as I cannot see a viable replacement for my vRS (3 years old in sept and out of warrenty then) from any manufacturer. except maybe the UP! GT, but I would like DSG....

I heard the new vas will be a 1.6 turbo, no more twin charger set up?

Either way I have decided I will be keeping our Fabtastic, it has its quirks but it is great fun and only done 6k in two years! I did notice on track yesterday where the revs very seldom dropped below 4500 and only changed gear at 6300 rpm that the car used NO OIL? Now a trip to the shops and it uses a bit, nowhere near as bad as before the breather mod but when being thrashed I would have expected some usage from any car.

I might consider the new Fabia to replace the Yeti in August 2014, see whats on the company car list first

maybe thats why mine uses no oil, because I always drive it like I stole it :p lol...... when I went round the ring, it did 4 laps (60km?!) at between 5,000-7,000 revs constantly! lol..I'm up to 44k, but will be comfortable enough to run it up to 100k.... I will also probably keep it, when you know you have a good one ect ect ;)

edit: I heard rumours it will be 1.6 turbo with cylinder shutdown :) here's hoping!

I have posted a bit of Oulton from yesterday on the blackvue thread, it was a great day but I found the car needs more GO! foot flat to the floor and just not enough but a lot of wheelspin in the wet didn't help lol.

Oops...forgot to reply

But the only replacement i thought of (size, performance etc) could be new Clio sport?

Turboed auto with back doors

I agree it fits the bill perfectly on spec, but I paid £15k, I cant afford to pay more, and thats gonna be £18k + at least ! :o closest in price is the new fiesta ST, (about £16k) and that has no twin clutch gearbox :(

only options are manuals, UP! GT circa £13-14k , or abarth 500 (special editions with 180bhp dsicounted at £15k)

but I looove my DSG lol.......

Fair point

Come to think of it am sure I read the clio could be 20k+

Not to mention french build quality. :)

And I doubt the vRS will be as cheap next time round either, especially if the new Octy prices are anything to go by. :(

As such there will be nothing in the price bracket with the same all round performance that we have now.

The new Fabia will, as other new models, shed a lot of weight (both chassis and engine). Its a light car to start with, and will be lighter and by definition highly unlikely to be suitable for towing anything except a little trailer.

mm the new octy specs make very interesting reading with weight! I'mimpressed... if cylinder shutdown and cheaper costs can be factored in, then maybe a slightly more monthly payment can be considered ?

But no VRS at launch (maybe by September?) and at what cost? I was contemplating a change but now have a new job which means a daily 100 mile commute. So was thinking diesel (ugh) and possibly going bigger with an Octy. However, when I started looking at the potential cost I felt that the anticipated price of the Octy would be approaching that of an A3 sport back/BMW 1 series/new A class with comparable equipment level. Factoring in potential resale value the equation will not necessarily be there to buy a Skoda in the future. Considered VW but felt that they were overpriced, more so that the Audi which surprised me. As a consequence I have decided to run the Fabia VRS on for at least another year(should have close to 60000 miles on it by then but only just over 30000miles on the engine) and will also be out of warranty. Then I will reconsider a replacement.

Currently I feel Skoda represents outstanding value for money, not so sure that is going to be true in the future which is a shame.

Hopefully the vRS will appear at launch. My car is 2 years old and I try to change at 3 years (finances and circumstances allowing of course) as I feel you get a decent bit of value out the car to put towards the next one. I have never owned a Skoda and must say the vRS ticks all the boxes for me 2 years into it and would look at a new one (if out) first before deciding to look elsewhere.

I'll be leaving the brand next change :( , a big draw for me was that i had a good local dealer but they are no more , other dealers in the area haven't impressed me

Had a closer look at the Rapid yesterday whilst getting a DRL replaced - and it's not that bad. First one I saw was in the light blue and didn't really tempt me. This one in silver is much easier on the eye...

Ah well - needs to be quick and cheap for me, but capable of not driving me to suicide on a 600 mile daytrip. 0-60 under 8s and 130+ top speed, small enough to park in Tescos easily, 5 doors and big enough to fit the M-I-L/dog in/tow with, and come in about 22k or so - plus not sting when it come to the company car tax.

Don't want much, do I!

personally im after a 1.8tsi yeti to mod into 300bhp. should be as fast as my fabia.. but 4x4 bigger and hilarious
