VRS with a few problems

Featured Replies

Hi,

As the thread title says I have a few problems with my vrs. The first one is that the O/S/R footwell is soaking wet, ive checked the weather strips and door seals and all is fine, any idea's?. Secondly I've lost the use of the drivers mirror ( have tried a mirror and new switch but no better ), but the passengers works fine on both settings, and the central locking on the remote is not working on the drivers door, but the rest works fine, again any idea's?.

Is the wiring loom going through the ' A ' post a comon fault?, ie cracked or broken wires?

Thanks for any help!

water.

More than likely leaking in due to blocked drains under the scuttle panel. Water will be ducked in via the loom / bonnet release cables. Other issues can be sunroof drains (not very much) and the plastic membranes inside of the doors.

Lack of mirror control - water ingress into the connector block on the motor assembly in the drivers door, or a break in the loom where it passes through to the A post.

Hi there,

The water in the foot well could be a number of common problems on these cars

If you have a sun roof the drain channels can get blocked or can come away from the roof allowing water to flow down to the foot well.

Also can get leaks due to rubber door seals worn or compressed

Sometime the door panel plastic liner if torn(due to someone fitting speakers) can cause water leaking into foot well instead of out through door drain channels.

this is also where i had my leak

Regarding your central locking and mirror, sounds like the most likely cause would be a break in one of the power wires as it passes from the 'A' pillar to the door - Red/Yellow or Red/Brown. It could also be a bad connection behind the 'A' pillar trim at the base.

The Electric mirror could be is caused by the same issue or the connector block on the electric window motor inside the door, think that has wires from it to other electrical parts in the door. Water corrodes the pins.

Thread on that found here:

Try searching very common issues with these car. Took me few minutes to search this lot..

hope you fix it
