Tyre WEIGHT-rating important?

Featured Replies

All my 18" tyres on my Superb is 92.

I was told to only use 94v.

My 16" spare is 94v.

But i had a flat last week and we couldnt find the reason,

apart from the inside of the tyre wer almost shredded.

Caused by wrong weight tyres

Or coz i had driven a flat for 4miles (but alloy undamaged)?

Tyre will be shredded due to running on the flat.

The difference between 92 and 94 is only 40Kg (92=630Kg & 94=670Kg) so unless you're running with a fully laden car shouldn't make much difference.

Personally I always try to get XL (Extra Load) tyres as I frequently run the car fully laden.

There is a legal requirement not to use tyres with a load rating below that necessary to meet the maximum axle loads ratings for the car. The maximum axle load ratings are normally found on a stamped plate attached to the car body, but sometimes may also be found in the handbook or on the logbook.

225/40 R18 92Y is the correct size tyre for your car. The spare is 94 rated, as the next weight down in 205/55 R16 size is 91 which is not suitable.

See this Skoda Germany PDF for all correct tyre and rim combinations.

Thanks for the link, been looking for something like this for a while.

Digressing onto Yeti I'm looking to renew my summer tyres that are 225/45 18 95Y XL. Replacements in this size have a 91 or 95 load index. The Skoda info states various size tyres with load index 91 - 94 as suitable.

Will I therefore be legal if I opt for a 91 load index tyre or should I stick to 95 index?

From the information provided, then 93 appears to be the lowest rating approved for the 4x4, with 91 only permissible with the 2wd. Safest bet therefore IMHO would be the 95.

Hope of help,

Thanks Tim for checking through the engine codes etc. It makes sense that the 4x4 needs a higher index; cos its heavier.

95 it will be.

Now to decide between Vredestein Ultrac Seesantas or Hancook Ventus V12s.
