So, these rubbish headlights - add LED driving lamps?

'so needed focusing more on the road in front of the car'

This will have been on dipped then as other drivers came towards you.

They must have been appearing to not be dipped or not adjusted away from focusing on the road in front of the car

and more at the other side of the road and into oncoming drivers eyes.

always good to try driving towards your own car in some other vehicle once flashed repeatedly, and see what it is that is bothering other drivers.

Then sort out your lights for see and not dazzle other road users, car, bike, lorry, van, cycle etc.

'See your self as others are doing',

or be blinded by your own car as others think they are being.

Yes it was on dipped. They had seperate reflectors for dipped and main.

I probably should have done what you mentioned to see what the fuss was about but like i say they were adjusted correctly and didn't seem to shine light anywhere they weren't meant to.

The only difference I can think is that they had quite a flat beam and didn't seem to shine much light to the passenger side and more just a straight out beam in front of the car.

One other aspect to this headlight debate is eyes! There is no doubt that headlights have got brighter and LEDs can be too intense but as your eyes age they become less able to handle bright light sources. I believe it is to do with increased light scatter within the eye. I had a pair of glasses made with ultradrive coated lenses (night version - yellow) so they are suitable for day or night. They reduce the blue component of light, reducing glare at night and increasing contrast in daylight. To summarise, if you are struggling with bright lights, you might just be getting old!
