New L&K order

Featured Replies

Hi,

I haven’t posted on the forum for some time now but have managed to keep track of the various topics and discussions.

Out Yeti is probably one of the best cars we have owned, a pleasure to drive with few vices, and I've owned or driven some pretty good cars over the years. When we bought the Yeti we wanted really to have an automatic but this option was not then currently available. With 3 years ownership on the horizon and at the point of exchange we will logged over 40K miles, needing it’s second variable service and MOT etc. we decided to see what was about. (summer tyres will also need replacing at the end of this season)

The new L&K 140 DSG (spare, mud flaps, metallic paint - STEEL GREY) fitted the bill very nicely; it all depended on the cost of exchange? We talked to two local Skoda garages and ended up back where we bought our first car, PX £16.5k and £1.4k discount – cost of exchange £9.2K. We thought this was a good deal and went for it there and then. (1st Feb) The manufacture estimate at the time was week 14 and yesterday I got the SUK order confirmation and a new estimate of week 17.

At the same time as we talked money we got an agreement that if the new car was not delivered before the service or the MOT fell due the garage would complete them at no cost – they would have to complete those anyway seemed to be the argument.

Overall I'm delighted it's the best PX I've ever got on selling a car, just under 79% of the original purchase price paid, just hope the manufacture date does not drift. Interestingly when I was talking to the admin lady she said that she had also place an order for a ‘standard’ Yeti – none L&K – and got a build date of week 14. Her thought was it was because it was a manual without the bundled extras?

I ordered my L&K (manual petrol, with TPM and RRP as only extras) on 30 January and don't have any build week yet!

Very frustrating, I hate the' not knowing' - but even with a date it is likely to change.

I know that our dealer gets the schedule build updates every Wednesday?

I was in the dealership yesterday collecting my wife's new Citigo (very nice as a second car to go with the monster) but no build news communicated. I waited about 6 months for my current Yeti so anything less than that will seem good and, to be honest, with a fixed p/x price I'm happy to keep running this one (although the front tyres are only good for about another 3000 miles, I;d guess). When ordered, the salesman reckoned I'd have the new car in March but, when pressed, said '14 weeks' which to me means more like end of April/start of May counting from the start of February.

I'm working on week 17 being 22nd April? So I calculate a week to build, three weeks to ship and a week to PDI - end of May or early June.

Not sure if this is a reasonable assumption?

This thread might be of help:

And thus the calendar for 2013.

Thanks for the input, so week 17 is the 22nd April, just depends on the time scale after then?

I was lucky first time round as the car got sea transport very quickly.

Happened to be speaking to sales manager at my dealership yesterday and he said there was no point giving me a provisional build week (which implies he has one), as that means nothing in practice (which was certainly my experience with the current Yeti). However, he said he would be pretty certain that I would take delivery of the L&K in late April or early May - which fits precisely with my best guess! Timewise that will suit me fine, as I have a couple of longish journeys down south before then, so I can properly wear out the tyres on my current car, and we are away on holiday over the end of March/beginning of April and again at the end of May.

Interesting, seems to me that dealers play the game according to the 'individual dealers rules'.

The date you have been given now was the date I was told originally which would suit me better than the later date for a number of reasons. Like you I do not hold my breath on Yeti delivery dates - it's a case of wait and see?

The admin lady has said she will give me an update IF the date changes which she did the last time around. It will be interesting to see what happens as there are a number of L&K's that have been ordered around the same time.

I'll update my dates if they change on the new orders topic.

Perhaps i case that you have ordered one of the dealer's 'allocation' of L&K that they know to be arriving shortly. If you had ordered one with some specific options that needed a custom build then maybe delivery lead time would be different.

I too waited 6 months for my CR140 DSG Elegance, two years ago. I:f you're getting one a lot quicker then you've done well.

I did ask the question about dealer allocation and if they had cars unallocated and he said it wasn't a real issue these days.

As I've indicated before his estimated production WK number moved a further 3 weeks on confirmation.

Are SUK via the dealers still offering compensation for late delivery? Or perhaps they are quoting exaggerated dates to avoid payment? :hi:

I got a cheque for £150 when mine was late.

Good question, how late did it have to be?

.... but that was when we had to wait six months for a Yeti!

I got some 'free accessories' or similar (can't remember exactly what now).

I was posting at the same time as you!

That was the impression I had but I ordered early December 2010 and was quoted early March 2011 delivery but the car actually arrived early May 2011.

An appropriate celebratory 1000th post: just had a call from the dealer who says that my L&K is down for build week 17, ie week beginning 22 April. I know it can change (forwards as well as back) but at least it's good to know it's on the worklist! Should mean I have the car in May, with any luck - and could be just the right time to start enjoying the sunroof.

Same week as mine looks like they will go down the build delivery route at the same time. Let's hope there is no delays, current issue seems to be getting a boat full to make the sea crossing?

I think they will be on different boats, though: cars for the northeast come into Port of Tyne while those for the south/midlands come into Sheerness or Grimsby.

  • Author

Your most likely correct, I think my current car came into Grimsby. It's going to be interesting to see just how quickly they make the crossing?

JCP has ordered his from the same dealer as I have and delivery looks to be about the same time - so they may make the crossing on the same boat?

(Different engines so that may make a difference to the build week.)

Is this something that has changed?

Mine came in via grimsby and, although you could argue semantics of where i live "north east v's midlands", the car was actually registered in Glasgow.

The lunacy of the delivery meant the car actually went past my house, pretty much, all the way to edinburgh to be registered and then back to me again.

The transporter driver was amused as it was he that took it up and brought it back.

Modern 'logistics', hey? I am always amazed when we are in the south of France to discover that much of the fish we buy in Aix-en-Provence was landed at Marseille (15 miles away) then goes to Paris to wholesalers and then back south again to the markets!

Don't know about the geographical cut-off points re Skoda boatloads, but certainly (as far as I am aware) all the Yetis I know of that have been registered in North Yorkshire, Durham, Northumberland have arrived at Port of Tyne.
