Getting pretty fed up with this car.....

Featured Replies

what size tyres do you have fitted?

The standard 205-45-16's IIRC.

Spare is the same size as well.

If you said it drove better with the 17s could it be the actual wheels mate? Maybe one is buckled or something?

Total stab in the dark btw!

Ha ha cheers Dan! Anyone's input is appreciated right now mate....

I thought this, but then wondered how they would balance up correctly. Plus why has swapping them between left and right not created the opposite effect?

Nothing seems to make sense :-/

On another note, I switched the fronts back to the correct way around, and it drives a bit better than with them running the wrong way. It's still massively pulling under acceleration though....

Is there any way that the increase in negative camber due to lowering is responsible for the effect being amplified? ....then I keep going back to the spare wheel making it go straight... ARRGGGGHHHHH!!!

Check all tyre pressures, if one is low leaking air it will pull . Also changing alloys , and adjusting ride height will always need tracking after towards because you are changing the factory standard

Do you want to try my wheels? I know mines are all fine :)

All pressures checked on a weekly basis. Drives the same after I've just done them.... Car had alignment done on Saturday - results are further up the page!!

Dan, are you sure you wouldn't mind? That would be absolutely awesome if you could, and I'd very much appreciate it. Obviously some beers in it for you! Out of interest what tyres do you run?

No problem mate, will help you narrow things down for sure. Mine are standard 16" wheels. I'm running Uniroyal RS2s on the front and another matching make on the back. I've got a 3rd Uniroyal but just need to buy a 4th to go on the rear then I will have a set of 4 :)

Don't mind you trying them though :)

It sounds as though a front suspension bush in one of the rear consoles is knacked or very soft, probably the RH side, as you are accelerating the right rear wishbone bush is allowing the wishbone to move to the right and steering the car to the left.

Absolute legend Dan! Seriously thank you very much! I'm going to take the car to the garage again first, as I want them to have another look at all the suspension to see if there's any wear in anything. More specifically I want them to check the ball joints with a crowbar to see if there's any play whatsoever. Then I'll be in touch with you if there's still no joy.

I thought pretty much exactly the same as you do mate! Hence I went and bought some uprated Superpro bushes. Bought the anti-lift ones for the consoles, and the uprated front wishbones. Got the car back on last Friday to find it was literally just the same as before, to my annoyance. Luckily they needed doing anyway, so I haven't really lost anything as such.

ive got 3 kids running and ****ting all round me so havnt got time to read it all lol so forgive me if youve answered lol

but did you manage to sort this problem bud?

Ha ha no worries mate! No, unfortunately still haven't sorted it :-( It's driving me round the twist. I'm thinking of all sorts of possibilities. If I had an unlimited supply of cash then I'd just tell a garage to fix it no matter what the cost. Then again.... I'd probably have a Ferrari if that was the case!!

Thanks mate :-)

tbh mate mine still does it and i agree its ****ing me off but i refuse to spend a fortune on summit like that unless i find out its dangerous. i do most work meself cost garage fees are ridiculous. a local garage to me tries to charge £80-90 ph lol errrm i dont think so lol hope you get it sorted mate just persiveer

Unfortunately since lowering mine it's become dangerous when you accelerate harshly. If you're coasting it drives perfectly straight!

I always used to work on my own cars. However, I only pay the garage because I want the history for the car. Annoys the hell out of me paying someone else to do the work!!

£90/hour!?!!! That's ridiculous! Going rate was about £40/hour I thought?

I had this problem with my SE Vrs and when brought it for tracking the man checked the wishbone bushings first and they were knackered.

Changed them with new modified bushings and brought back for tracking and is driving perfect since.

Even under acceleration it doesnt pull left

£90-120/hr from a franchise dealer isn't that unusual. Personally I pay £20/hr at mates rates on the small amount of stuff I won't do (wheel bearings for example without a press are a pita). The mechanic concerned is known internationally for the standard of his work and regularly has cars shipped to him for work from all over NI/SI/UK.
