Tyre profile will make a difference in the gap I had 195/40/R17 and I hated the gap so I changed to 195/50/R17 and it looks fine but I do get the bumper catching sometimes but think that's got something to do with my Leon splitter lol

Both of those tyre sizes are too small for an Octavia anyway. It should be running either 205/50x17 section or the more common 225/45x17.

16's are fitted with 205/50/16 as standard though.

You are probably correct on the 17" sizes I got my info from an older post. That will teach me to check my sources before posting :wonder:

Either way, 195 is the wrong width and using the correct width will increase the sidewall height and fill the gap between tyre and wheel arch better.

yup on the hatch pretty sure thats the standard, tho many use 225 45 17 as an upgrade

I think 195/65/15 is a better upgrade car handles just as good as it did on 225/45/17's

on the straights :p

Might be a bit nicer in the potholes at least... apart from the boat bouncing afterwards!

in all honest I have had no issues since changing and the car handles great. Tyres were amazing in the snow but also great just when its cold and wet.

More profile will certainly be more compliant and less likely to break away unexpectedly. But there will inevitably be a bit of wobble.
