Black Magic scratch repair - advice requested

Featured Replies

Hi,

I would like some advice on repairing a scratch in my 14 month old Superb. At the top of the door, just below the window are a number of light gouge marks going most of the length of the door. They are not down to the metal but are a couple of millimetres thick, its as if a plastic button has been scraped down the side.

Do you think this can be polished out or is it worthwhile either taking it do a dealer or chips away.

This is the first time I have had metallic paint and not sure where to go. I expect the whole door will need to be resprayed but will they be able to match colour?

Any advice gratefully received

Regards

David

You would need to do the car side whole lengh i think to get a good merge,on a older car with yours being newish you may get away with the door. First you need to check depth if its only the laqer surface plenty of soapy water 1200 wet/dry lightly draw along lengh of scratch same direction as scratch checking allthe time then wash thoroughly, get a buffer and buff along the scratch finish of with good polish. If in doubt get chips away. If its to deep its a respray job, best of luck with it.This is only my opinion there should be some car body specialists on here,to advise.

Hi

Thanks for the advice, its definately past the laquer. I can still see black but its one of the under layers

If it's down passed the laquer then you would need to fill wet sand and polish. If you can still see the black then you may be able to just fill it with laquer, sand to level and polish. It's worth a go before a respray!

You would need a dual action or rotary polisher though.
