Octavia 1.6 TDi S or Rapid 1.2 TSi S

Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this question.

I am considering buying one of the above models. I have never owned a Skoda before but keep hearing amazing things about them. Could anyone recommend one or the other? I have got the choice of either - both pre-registered at a price of £11,500.

What is the best option? Would the 1.2 be too small in the Rapid (it's the 85 bhp version)?

I sat in both today and didn't notice a great difference - although I have yet to get a test drive.

I just don't understand the pros/cons of buying one over the other. I do intend to keep it for at least 3 years and I do 50 miles of motorway driving every weekday. I need the space as got twin babies on the way too!

Hi there, I think you'll need to test drive them both to find out, though please take both on the motorway as I suspect that is one of the places you'll notice a difference. I'd expect the octy to be better suited to the motorway as I'm guessing it will have more power and torque,be more relaxed/less strained at 70 plus it'll probably be better on fuel. The octy is bigger than the rapid and again will probably be better suited for a new family. Only downside is the octy III is about to be released so will effect Octy II residuals. Both are the same price so it's really down to personal choice. I'd pick the Octy,as from a practical perspective it's bigger, more powerful and IMOthe build quality of the interioris better but you're buying the car! Whichever you choose I'm sure you will be very pleased. Best of luck

depends very much on what type of motoring you do and how many miles.

Never use either of these engines in a Rapid but have driven them in other VAG's

The 1.2 is great in town but can run out of steam on long inclines. TDi is a no brainer if you do a lot of miles.

I'd go for the diesel Octavia.

+1 for diesel Octy  but that's mainly because I thought from pictures that the Rapid was fugly and, after seeing one on the road the other day, that opinion has been confirmed.

Do test drive them for yourself over a variety of roads and in a variety of traffic conditions as only you can make the final decision.
