Starter Motor problem returns.

Featured Replies

About three weeks go I posted a query regarding a problem I have with my 04 TDI. Suddenly the starter appeard to be not pre- engaging with the starter ring. When turning the key all I heard was the whirring of the motor.

I took the car to a local independant garage that seems top have a good reputation and they removed the motor and it was collected by a local electro repair place but they reported that the motor needed alot of work and it was cheaper to replace it. Im not sure what they actually replaced it with and as it appeared to be working well I assumed it was another overhauled unit.

I have had no problens with it since Jan 21 but now I have exactly the same fault with this supposedly "replacement" unit. I find it diffucult to believe that two starter motors should have the same problem and I am now wondering if it could be a problem elswhere but I really cannot understand where it night be.

Needless to say I will be making a phone call tomorrow to the afore mentioned garage and I would appreciate it if anyone here might be able to suggest exactly what the problem might

be, other than I still have the original faulty motor that has simply been cleaned by the third party.............any suggestions?

Sounds to me like there is some other issue.... but I am not overly versed with starter motor related issues so can't be of much more help :-(

Garage have fitted another motor and she same thing is happening, could this be down to a worn ring on the fly-wheel and any idea how much this is likely to cost?

Might be worth a cheeky phone call to your local Skoda/VAG garage and ask to speak to a mechanic and run the problem past him....

I have done such things in the past when looking for diagnostic help (Skoda and Peugeot)
