SOLD - 2005 Lemon Yellow Fabia vRS (plenty of mods) -

Featured Replies

For sale is my 2005/05 Lemon Yellow Skoda Fabia vRS Mk1. Based on an ASZ PD130 engine and having done ~114,000 miles, its good points and bad points are as follows:

Good

----

Stage 2 Turbo Dynamics PD130 hybrid turbo (MD446)

200bhp and ~330lbft on a "safe" Shark map (it was mapped with the old, failing flywheel and I haven't had it mapped again since fitting the SMF)

Forge FMIC and silicone pipework (comes with a standard crash bar fitted but a modified one is available for better airflow, if the buyer chooses to run it)

EGR removed and mapped out (no CEL)

PD160 intake

Milltek turbo-back de-cat exhaust

Quaife LSD

FK Coilovers

Whiteline rear anti-roll bar

SEAT Sport front strut brace

312mm front brakes with Tarox discs and pads

256mm rear brakes with Pagid discs and OEM pads

Spare set of brand new rear Pagid pads, plus used rear discs

Stack boost gauge in drivers vent (not currently plumbed in due to a missing hosetail, wasn't done by the previous owner for some reason and I've never got round to doing it)

Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 16" wheels (wearing new 205/45/16 Uniroyal Rainsport 2s all round)

Ibiza Cupra wishbone bushes

SuperPro dogbone mount

Sachs Race Engineering organic clutch with Jabbasport SMF (fitted Nov 2011)

HKS turbo timer

AC freshly regassed summer 2012

All four doors copiously sealed against leaks in summer 2012

Kenwood BT6144 Bluetooth/MP3 headunit

Slick Vibe 40 speakers in parcel shelf (other speakers are standard, to the best of my knowledge)

New battery in Dec 2011 so no cold start problems

Retrimmed steering wheel

Folder full of receipts both from me, and the previous owner

Taxed until 09/13

MOT test valid until April 2014

Redline featured, Sept 2010 (from memory). I do have a slightly tatty copy of the mag from the previous owner, I never got round to writing to Redline to see if I could buy a cleaner one before they went under.

The car is fitted with a Tracker Monitor unit, although I haven't activated this because there wasn't any insurance discount. At the time I bought the car it would cost either £30 to transfer followed by £149/year, or a £399 "lifetime" payment which would cover you until you sell the car. These costs may have changed, of course.

VAGCOM scanned regularly by me and has never had any faults

Comes with two keys, one is practically new, the other is worn through a lifetime of pocket abuse

No seat damage, and the fronts have just been through the washing machine so are looking spot on

Bad

----

Paintwork isn't the best and there's a touch of rust on the driver's rear wheel arch

Changing from 5th to 4th is problematic, it's still perfectly drivable and there's no untoward noises or behaviour but there's a small "knack" to hitting 4th on the move

I'm not desperate to sell because it's still a good car and is pretty cheap to run, but if the right price comes up then I would. It still goes well, it still stops well, and it still handles well.

Pricewise, initially I'd be looking for offers in the region of £4200. There have been a few far more standard Fabias floating around at this sort of pricepoint (a garage near me is attempting to sell a standard one for ~£7k and still getting a lot of people looking around it!), and although mine needs a little cosmetic work the hardware is generally sound. All the traditionally expensive mods are done (turbo, clutch, diff, etc) and it's already on a nice set of lightweight wheels that suit the car IMO. More pics to follow when I've had chance to wash it so this is slightly out of date (now has no LCR splitter, black inner grill and a Pastyboy B&W Skoda grill badge)

Bump, it's chucking it down and I still haven't had chance to wash it and get some new pics, but just a note to say that as of tomorrow thanks to a combination of lowish tread and a puncture, all 4 wheels will be brand new Rainsport 2s.

Bump, I've added a couple of new photos after I quickly cleaned it on Sunday, and price is now £4k

Bump again, sadly failed its MOT due to the handbrake issue above and leaking rear shocks which I didn't know about as the handling hadn't changed. Today I've been out and bought new Pagid Octy vRS discs and pads, which will be fitted by next weekend along with the Octy vRS 256mm rear brake setup, as well as having brand new FK coilovers fitted all round (plus new drop links which seem to come in the box with the FKs, so they'll be fresh as well). Given that it cost me £300 in tyres a few weeks ago, £65 in discs and pads, £200 in coilovers plus whatever the labour costs are I'm not interested in dropping the price any further or accepting silly offers as yet. But rest assured that for the money I'm asking you're getting far more new parts than I'd intended and a 12 month MOT pass, I'm just posting this post in the interests of honesty, I'm not trying to hide anything with this sale.

Very nice car, can't believe it hasn't sold for that price with that spec, haven't seen many for sale with lsd! GLWS!

interested in selling the pro race 1.2's?

Not yet, as then I'd have to find a set of standard wheels or something I like as much as the TDs in the meantime, and I think they're a selling point as they're a damned nice wheel. If I change my mind and sway towards breaking the car, I'll let you know.

I do know someone selling the same wheels for £350 with no tyres, PM me an email address or phone number and I'll put you in touch with him somehow.

have you had/done any investigation into gear change issues?

Not a massive amount. I know it's not the gearbox alignment as I re-did that (the locking pin had got damaged somehow so I thought there might be something mis-aligned, I had the locking mech replaced and re-aligned everything) and I know it's not the shifter cable ends as I replaced those with eBay items (they were used, but in better condition than mine, one of the plastic "frames" around the bush had split on the originals). Anything else requires the 'box off and more investigation and as I use the car daily for work I'm planning to wait until it actually causes a problem and then look into my options at that point.

Bump. The MOT work has now been done (actually a week and a bit ago) and it passed the re-test with no issues. Unfortunately, the brake kit I bought from someone on here last year in preparation for the 256 upgrade turned out to be wrong when push came to shove (I got sent vRS calipers and non-vRS carriers somehow, I assume there was more than one car being broken at the time and someone mixed the bits up). Trying to get carriers proved impossible for a couple of days, so the work was unfortunately delayed. The knock-on effect was that with the time spent ringing around, waiting for parts and having to fully reassemble my 232 setup again so the car could be stored in the yard and he could get on with other jobs, the guy doing the work ran out of time for doing the front shocks as my priority had to be just to get the car through the MOT and back on the road ASAP (note that the front shocks weren't failure/advisory items).

With that in mind, I'd take £3850 for the car and the (brand new) front shocks which are currently still in the box.

Bump (yet again). Thanks to a kindly forum member, I got hold of a set of driver's seat covers for the grand sum of free. They were filthy and the base cover was damaged but the upper cover was OK. It cleaned up nicely and wasn't damaged like my original one was so this weekend's project has been strip the front seats, stick them through the washing machine and then reassemble all the good bits into two front seats in much better condition. I've also swapped the foam seat bases over as the driver's side has had far more use so this will help keep them more even. All in all, it's been a long few hours figuring it all out and laundering but I'm very impressed with how the seats look now :)
