Meguiars Dual Action Polisher Version 2

Featured Replies

Is this a safe machine for use by a complete novice like me?

I have never used a machine before.

Many thanks.

Mike.

Yes!!

I recently got one as a present and although only used it the once so far, very pleased with the result

Autoglym SRP was used using the machine then Autoglym HD wax applied by hand.

Just check the instructions for the correct speed to use and look on Meguiars website for video tutorials

Looks like a very decent machine to me. I started off with dual action.

Yeah, I've read all that, Chris...every word.

I'm really keen to do things right.

Trouble is, it seems using one of these machines is all to do with `correction`. As if the machine is only needed if you have imperfections, scratches, swirls etc. Well I don't have these problems and I wonder "do I need a machine just to shine up a near perfect paint finish"? That's why I asked whether it was `safe`. I guess what I'm trying to ascertain is whether or not a polisher in my hands is unnecessary. The other thing is the weight of it. I notice that the demo video clips I've seen are nearly always polishing the bonnet...nice and flat and easy, with gravity helping a little. I wonder what its like to hold one of these things whilst doing the vertical panels...doors etc.

As you can probably tell...I'm not convinced...but I want to be...I like my toys!!!

Your further thoughts on this would be most helpful.

Regards.

Mike.

I use mine to appy Cleaner polishes (Carlack) and even wax and sealers..You get a much more even coat....They are very versatile....

Just get a selection of pads and away you go....... Finishing pads if you dont want any correction

They really are good and safe..even for beginners

Easy to hold too, even on vertical surfaces

Thats good to know and settles it for me.

I'll order one now.

Many thanks for your advice, Chris.

Regards.

Mike.

I've always been interested in one of these myself, partly because I used to have one of the infamous pink vauxhalls. But even if I just used it for polish, wax and sealants it'd be a top buy for me!

So also thank you for the advice, as always!

Thank you so much for this, Chris.

Pleased I waited until today to place the order.

Regards, as always.

Mike.

Just to add to the thread Dual Action polishers are pretty safe even for beginners its the rotary type that warrants real care

Good luck with it !!

Thanks Chris for that discount code!

Got a list of the pads and products to get. Only really going to be used to take out very minor scratches and swirls. I've seen you use Scholl S17+.. is that a good product to try out first with the red megs pad?

With my fab i'm just going to be applying wax with the black finishing pad. Just just need a definite heads up on the favourite polishes that you guys use?

Thanks again!

NO!!The Red Megs pad is far too harsh...I never use it!! Its for removing dep scratches and is not safe for a beginner

But...Yes..Scholl S17+ is a meduim cut polish for Medium/hard car paint (VAG)

I use this in conjunction with a Medium cutting pad (Chemical Guys Hexalogic or 3M are the ones I have and use all the time)

If you get some hologramming. ....Change to a finishing pad and polish

Okay I hear you. Well in that case then would there be a softer cut polish to start out with and even more so on a softer pad?

And my apologies when i said red pad, Actually meant the yellow!

Good starter would be GTechnik P1 on a medium cut pad

OR

The combo I already suggested

Thanks for all your help as always Chris!
