1.4mpi what mileage should i have cam belt done at?

Featured Replies

hey just wonderign at what milage should i get my cam belt checked at?

If you have the 1.4 MPI 8v it is chain driven so you should easily get in excess of 100,000 miles without any maintenance. If it starts getting noisy it's time to get it checked. If you have the 1.4 16v that is belt driven.

i do have the 16v so was just wondering what sort of mileage should it be done at?

Skoda recommend getting it inspected at 60,000 miles and every 20,000 miles after that. Most people change it at 60,000 to be on the safe side but a mechanic should be able to advise either way. Sometimes if you usually do long journeys the belt will last longer than if you do shorter journeys. I have heard stories of cam belts going on the 1.4 16v before the recommended 60,000 mile inspection so get it checked sooner rather then later if your car is reaching this mileage.

Didn't they reduce the interval from a 60k initial inspection down to 40k? I've never paid much attention as I don't own one and thankfully non of the family do but I'm pretty sure I've read something on here to that effect?

I seem to Remember there was advice on mileages /age for belts somewhere on this site . Can't remember where ,as i only took note of the needs of mine .

If it says MPI on the boot lid, you have the 8v. If it says 16v, you have the 16v. Ordinarily the 16v wouldn't be referred to as the MPI, even if it does use a multi-point fuel injection system.
