Glow plug quality

Featured Replies

Hi guys, just wondering if in your experience the quality of glowplugs have much effect on operation? Is it worth spending the extra on genuine ones?

I bought some cheap ones, they lasted about 6 months. I'd never buy cheap again, I've never had issues with NGK stuff.

Got Denso off carparts4less. £6.96 each. Only been in 2 weeks so far. Hoping not to need another set.

Get Bosch, NGK or Nippon-Densu; this is a case of buy dear, buy once: buy cheap, buy every few months.

Haha this reminds me of a car that I fixed ages ago ref: spark plugs, the geezer I did it for was a proper Yorkshire northerner, and he asked me which spark plugs he needed to get, and I says " are they champion?" and he says " no ther're ****ed"

any who onto my point, I'm pretty certain that the genuine oem glow plugs are made by ngk, so there's no difference between those and a aftermarket set of ngk glow plugs, they even have the same part number stamped on them, the oem ones just have an additional vag number on them too.

And a few quid on the price tag I bet!

Actually no, you'd be surprised how reasonably priced some of the genuine parts are nowadays for the older models.

edit; ignore the last, I've just looked it up on etka, the oem glow plugs are Bosch ones and they Ada out £12 each, it's the spark plugs that are ngk oem on the petrol engines.
