building a screen into the centre fan cluster

Featured Replies

So, I got the carpc in the car, and i'm using a 7" screen on a dash mount but REALLY want to get it INTO the dash.

Has anyone on here got any bright ideas? I was thinking of removing the central fan cluster (relocating the hazard switch of course), and some how building a pop out screen into that so its concealed when the car is unattended.

Does anyone know how to remove the central fan cluster (i dont want to break any clips), and how much room is there behind there for such toys?

i'm hoping the ducting is on the bit that comes out otherwise i'll have to cut back what I find in there to fit the screen in.

Then there is fabricating the bit to go in there, suppose I could get a new fan cluster from the dealers and modify that but it has to look right, anyone got any ideas (or companies who do this)?

Is there a reason you are not using a flip out screen in the spare 1 din hole under the head unit were the storage tray is???

Rather than hack the dash to bits, what about fitting it under the heater controls? It may mean hacking the centre console a bit, but that has got to be easier and cheaper. And it is well out of sight.

Because its a VGA screen for a PC, it needs to support touchscreen too and there arent any decent ones on the market which are dash mount. The car stereo type brand ones like alpine/kenwood/panasonic etc are all nice and bright but are designed for thier own bespoke software, I need this JUST to be a screen and hook up to the PC thats in the boot via VGA and USB

Not too impressed with the quality of the unit itself though.
