Seat Ibiza FR PD130. Remap or hybrid?

Featured Replies

Hi. Sorry if anybody has covered this before.

I've got an Ibiza FR TDi. It's got a Milltek turbo back and a DMS Stage 1.5 remap. The car is really quick, but I'd like a bit more speed. I'm not 100% sure about the current output of the car, but I'd estimate 165bhp? Anyway, to gain my extra bit of speed I'm after, would you advise getting a further remap, perhaps stage 2, or a PD150 turbocharger (Or a PD160) or a PD130 hybrid? I'm not looking for huge power, the torque is already more than enough, I'm just looking for a bit more power. I've read that the PD130 hybrids will cost around the same as a PD150 or PD160 turbo, and will likely outlast the latters, is this really true? And what are the limits of the turbo's I mentioned? I heard 200bhp is acheivable from the 130 hybrid, but at what boost levels? Obviously that is dependant on modification and the map, but I don't want to run 25+psi for 200bhp really.

Any insight is much appreciated.

D.

I use to run a DMS remap :) what's the difference with the 1.5?

A custom map might obtain a little more BHP but a pd150/160 turbo would be a good upgrade if you want more like the high 180's low 190's. but a intercooler is advised plus a remap to take into account the turbo.

Intruiged by a 1.5 remap too.

Standard plug and play remaps tend to give the mid-160s figures you mention

I had a Forge iPro map on my old '02 plate PD130 Ibiza Sport which was actually pretty spiky but goot for 165ish bhp

When i bought my Fabia i took it to Jabbasport and get a custom rolling road remap following fitment of a PD160 air intake.

A little more air and it made 177bhp and has continued to do so for the last 4 years.

Over and above that it starts to get expensive.

A Garrett PD160 turbo will set you back around £800 plus

or you could take a gamble on an eBay PD130 hybrid at £550

either should see you around 200bhp once mapped in properly (probably another £200-300)

then to deal with the extra heat you'll need a front mount intercooler (another £500 unless you bodge an eBay universal one together)

Yeah they're good, I get mine for free becuase I'm mates with Scott. Long story short, had a stage 1, was quick but not quick enough. Had a stage 2, was quick enough but needed the off throttle/low load mapping set for economy. So had it set up again to get a bit of MPG as well as MPH and thus, the 1.5 was born, lol.

I'm probably going to get a vRS, just need to sell either the FR or the Evo, as the vRS is a much bigger, more luxurious car than the Ibiza.

I was looking at those PD160 intake arms, they sound decent. I was thinking about just getting a PD130 hybrid and maybe a different exhaust and setting it up for stage 2. I've been getting lessons and practicing a bit on my project car and I'm finally capable of setting up a decent map but I'd rather have more dyno time before I do it to my daily. I heard that a FMIC doesn't do diesels any good, sounded stupid to me but hey ho, that's what the guy said.

So a front mount intercooler, PD160 intake, some form of filter, PD130 hybrid and a stage 2 map should see me a pretty quick car. I'm only worries about the clutch as I've heard they're not cheap to replace (£700 if I read correctly), and don't fancy that if I'll be getting rid of it soon.

Darkside budget Turbo kit?

Ah yeah forgot the clutch.

Yes if you're aiming for 200+ you'll probably need a new clutch too w it's is anywhere from £700 to a grand

Well I have easy access to loads of stainless piping, as we make manifolds for turbo applications on jap cars, but is it really different doing it on a diesel?

I've got loads of knowledge about turboing petrol cars, but don't know about turbo choice, pipe diameter for manifold etc or what diesels respond better too. I've got a very good welder and he's been making manifolds for us for a while now so making the turbo kit wouldn't be a problem, just the choice of pipe will be my only point that I don't know about, that and turbo choice. I've heard a GT17/20 hybrid is good? Not sure.

What if I bought the clutch from a PD160 Ibiza or something? Failing that, I've seen these Sachs clutches on a few cars, I'm guessing they're the ones to go for.
