Another phone required

Featured Replies

I didn't put new since used might be an option.

Old cheap Samsung I5500 is starting to go a bit FUBAR.

I don't really need a contract. Hardly use it, don't text that much, don't Facebook and no interest in Tw@tter.

I wouldn't bother with a smartphone other than I find it very handy to keep the sprog entertained and some of the games are good whilst waiting on SWMBO to do whatever she does for 40min while I'm waiting in the car for her.

So I've got £80-100 to get either a Tesco phone (current number) or an unlocked phone used or new.

Don't want an iPhone. I'm allergic to Apple.

Digging around I can get various Samsungs, Aces, Galaxy II or HTC stuff or BB.

I know little about phones despite being quite techy. For some reason I've never found phones very interesting.

OR do I save my pennies and get something like a Nexus 4?

You can get a basic phone for under 20 quid sounds like that's all you need lol

True, but you tube is good for toons to keep the wee man happy.

I've an old Nokia I use as a 'Holiday' phone which is nearly indestructible (but not chew proof as the screen now shows).

Avoid Blackberry unless you want to be living in the 80's

plenty of HTC's and sony xperia's

Sony's are all new to me. Never used one for years and don't know anyone else that does either. Been bitten by Sony's corporate arseyness in the past.

Xperia any good?

I thought BBs need odd SIMs too which I can't be bothered with.

Trouble is that unless you use wifi all the time, stuff like YouTube will use all your data up in a day or two.

Personally I think you'd be better off getting a cheap tablet and download games and videos for the lil one at home

I'm in this boat too. More or less out of contract, and have been offered an upgrade. Sorry for jumping on the thread btw. Got an Orange San Fran at the mo and whilst I've no desire to junk it, the Samsung tablet phones (I think it's that) look quite good. Lad at work says he never uses is laptop now because he can do it all on the tablet. It would be free too. I can live with charging it every day as I've got used to that, but no idea what it's like really.

Toons etc would all be on wifi. No 3G in or near the house anyway. I have an app on the phone to block data unless it's on wifi.

If I find I'm actually going to need data on the go I'll pick up a 3 all-you-can-eat deal. But mostly it's for in the house or waiting on the bus.

It's very rarely I think I actually need the internet on the go.

I've had a HTC desire for the past 2 years on contract. I've been so happy with it I have just extended it on a SIM-only deal for another year (at half the price). It's been brilliant, and this is coming from a 23 year-old. I also do tree work so it's not had an easy life. I dropped it 40ft out of a tree once. :giggle:

It's 'old' hat now which keeps the price down, but certainly doesn't look it. A good secondhand one will set you back £100 tops

HTC desire review

Or you could probably go for a new wildfire, it's smaller and the screen lacks the resolution but still solid.

Just my two cents.

I'm on my second HTC now and cant fault them.

As above an older or lower spec model wont cost the earth but will do everything you need.

Someone has a HTC Desire in the sale section.

You can pick up an LG L3 or Motosmart in the £50-£60 PAYG bracket if you're only after something smart but basic.

I've just seen an Huawei Ascend G300 and that looks a steal.

I've got a samsung galaxy ace and don't want another- it's slow and the screen's too small for typing. Daughter has the bigger galaxy II, it's better and quicker about 21 months in but the ring's gone on the phone now. SWMBO has a kakburry which is ok if you're a mad txter or typer, but not much use for other 'smart' stuff IMO.

Looking like a HTC Desire HD for the moment. But might consider a Nexus 4 since it seems the best value for money.

The HTC Desire (HD) is a nice enough phone and will be a step up from what you have, but if you have a choice between that or a Galaxy S2 or Nexus 4, I'd be looking at the latter two as they are leaps and bounds ahead, imho. If you have big pockets (sizewise rather than money-wise) the Galaxy Note is also worth a look.

on a budget , a galaxy S2 running pure Jelly Bean 4.2.2 would get my vote.
