Nokia 6110 hands free - Removal

Featured Replies

I was 'fortunate' enough that my Superb (which I got last week) came with a Nokia 6110 hands free kit. Has anyone had experience removing these themselves? I

think it should be reasonably straightforward to do, just a ball ache to get to. Just didn't know if anyone had any bad experiences trying to get one out.

Once removed, I may put it on eBay under 'Vintage & Antique' :giggle:

I have previously removed 3 or 4 car kits, the glovebox will possibly need to be removed as well as the head unit so that all the wiring can be removed.

It’s a pretty straightforward job to do.

Never removed a glove box.... Am i gonna be met with a requirement for any special tools or will standard array of screwdrivers and sockets do the trick?

You will need a torx bit (T25 IIRC??) once you have one it’s dead easy.

Wouldn't it be easy to buy a 6110? :giggle:

There is a gotcha - the glovebox light assembly may disassemble itself if you don't disconnect it before removing the glovebox (it can catch as you pull the glove box out), and it is a bit of a pain to put back together (fiddly sprung plastic contraption). You need to prise it out before disconnecting the glovebox and disconnect the cable from the rear.

There is another cable to the glovebox for the airbag disable switch. If you need to disconnect this switch to get good enough access (the cable isn't very long) - try not to turn the ignition on with the switch disconnected. If you do, you will need to get someone with VCDS or dealer tool to cancel the airbag warning light.

That might not be so crazy... there is a chance this is the factory phone kit, in which case you get full menus on the maxidot for making calls etc (does your steering wheel have a phone icon on it?) If you, I'd consider getting a 6110 "emulator" which looks like a 6110 and converts bluetooth to 6110-speak so you can bluetooth in with any phone you like. They are common for people with mercs that have factory Nokia car kits.

Possibly... yea :giggle:

This sounds a little tricky. but the worst that can happen is that I need a light turned off right?

P.S. LOVE your black Superb.

Nah, no phone button visible on the steering wheel.

Probably an aftermarket kit then. Sometimes the installs / parts of these aren't great. My Dad had one professionally put into his Peugeot 307... the factory sat nav stopped working when I bought the car off him, accompanied by a burning smell. The mute relay box (which was feeding power to the head unit) had a PCB track the thickness of a hair feeding the head unit power, and eventually gave way (I listened to the radio a little louder than the old man...!)

The airbag switch isn't a big issue; there is enough cable I recall to have the glovebox dangling from it if you're only going to be a little while. It is a 2 minute job to reset the warning if you do get it.

Thanks Jimbo. Might take a look at this at the weekend.
