Got my Fabia, a few questions...

Featured Replies

Picked up my Fabia this morning, my first car (ever!) as I passed last week. I just want to clear a few things up. Its a 2003 1.4 Classic manual.

When I turn on the ignition, the display LCD shows 'service insp' for a minute or so. The car was serviced by the dealer before I picked it up, and the service book has been stamped for it. Is it normal for service insp to show when the car is started or has the dealer not reset the computer?

Which 1.4 engine do I have? I've looked in the technical manual so that I know what amounts of fluids etc the car takes, and there are 4 different 1.4 engines, and the power is stated in KW, which makes no sense as I'm used to reading power figures in BHP (the bootlid badge has 1.4 MPi).

Finally, what is my paint colour called? its bright red, non metallic.

You will need to ask your dealer to reset the service reminder, Your Colour is Corrida Red I beleive and Your MPI is the 1.48V 68HP Engine.

Welcome to the club!

Sounds like the dealer forgot to cancel the service indicator display. There is a way of resetting it using the clock buttons on the instrument panel, but it's very quick for the dealer to do it.

All the codes for things like engine, gearbox, trim and paint are on a paper sticker on the boot floor, under the carpet. There should be a copy in the owner's manual as well.

The current bright red is Corrida Red, but I'm not sure whether that was the 2003 colour.

Sounds like you have the 8-valve 1.4 engine. One of the petrolheads will be along in a bit with more details, no doubt.

Welcome :orb_wave:

Take the car back to the deale & ask / NO tell them they forgot to reset the service indicator, and that you would like it done immediately ( wont do any damage to the car, but it will become annoying )

I suspect it is the 75 BHP engine- But I'm sure someone will come along & correct.

Colour = Corrida red .

Take it to the dealer and tell them to reset the reminder.

There are 4 types of 1.4 as you said. I'm thinking the 75bhp or 100bhp model. You gotta confirm with your dealer, I know the manual is a bit of a puzzler.

I had a 1.4MPI in my Seat Ibiza and that was 68BHP...i would assume its the same thing. Not a bad engine...i liked it, it was nice and smooth.

...and very very slow:)

I'm thinking the 68hp 1.4 8v :P

75hp was only the 16v automatic, and 100hp is the 16v manual (known as "1.4 16v" on the badge, as opposed to "1.4 MPI")

There is a way of resetting it yourself, without hassling the dealer (who RIGHTLY should be hassled) but if its a long journey or you've not got much time to visit them, I can supply you the twist/turn/push combination to reset the service light. :)

Dude...it's slow. Denial is a sin here  I'll put it like this, it's as fast a 990cc Toyota Yaris. It's very slow dude, I had it as a courtesy car for over a week and I hated the fact that I couldn't overtake without having a d**k behind me flashing as to why I switched..

If you want to reset the service indicator yourself, see page 52 of your user manual on instructions.

I had to do it myself yesterday as the dealer I got mine from hadn't reset it either.

Oh and welcome to the gang of nutters!

They are not too bad, it's on hills they seem a bit lethargic, but they pick up in 1st, 2nd and 3rd quite well, It Still beats the Fabia 1.0, 1.2 (Both Variants), 1.4 Auto and 1.9SDI. They are not particularly economical though, hence the 1.2. I used to struggle to get 38MPG Out of Mine, But It's Still a Fabia, It's not the slowest and Im Sure It will bring you many hours of driving pleasure! :)

kW * 1.36 = BHP (approx.)

If it's 55 kW, then it's 75 BHP.

As Far as I know, Unless It's labelled Incorrectly the 1.4 MPI badge is only for the 1.4 68HP , I was Told that it is a Skoda, not a VW Engine. It Still Produces 93 lbs/ft, the same as the 1.4 75 and 100 HP engines from what I can see.

Yep, the 1.4 MPi is a reworked version of the Skoda pushrod unit from the Felicia with 68bhp. It got dropped in favour of the VW 1.2 12v.

So They have been Putting a Skoda Engine in Seats and Volkswagens ? :)

Nah. The 75 and 100bhp 1.4 16v is a Volkswagen engine.

So They have been Putting a Skoda Engine in Seats and Volkswagens ? :)

Yes! But not the 1.4 8v. They fitted a 1.0 Skoda engine to some Lupos and Arosas, and the new 1.2 3 cylinder engine (6v and 12v) is a new Skoda engine which is also fitted to the Polo and Ibiza.
