running your fabia 1.9sdi on veg oil

Featured Replies

I use either Tesco sunflower or their veg oil in the 5l bottles. The fuel consumption is worse but only 2-3 mpg. Having driven cars for a long time I don't find the sdi that underpowered, you have to be a bit more awake on sliproads and when overtaking as you actually have to work out whether you can pull out instead of just putting your foot down.

i have been running 50/50 veg oil and diesel i dont know if it makes any difference but i mix 10ltrs of oil to 10 ltrs of diesel in a 25 ltr drum i didnt fancy pouring straight in . i have not really noticed any difference on power or performance so it must be ok done a few journeys to catterick garison from south wales and it has saved me a few quid . if you get it from farmfoods its 9.99 for 10 ltrs but if you can get hold of a voucher for money off it works out about 7 pound for 10 ltrs not bad considering

i have posted this in SVO biodiesel  but maybe it's more appropriate to post it here.

. i'm running an old fabia 1.9 sdi on veg oil recovered from restaurants (after some rigurous filtering and decantation) since a year now.

i'm mixing 50/50 in the winter and during summer 30/70.

i havent noticed any issues except a little brown oily gunk accumulated in the injection pump since first few tries i didnt filter properly.

now using a twin filter (4 microns + 2 microns) recovered from boats to prefilter before use.

Any optimization i could do to the engine regarding timing or any other idea ?!

recently replaced the G81 Fuel Temp sensor inside the injection pump and i have the impression consumption went up a bit even at idle it doubled (i have also set IQ to about 2.4mg). Before when the previous sensor was shorted i had 0.2 at idle now it sits at 0.4 - 0.5l/h ..

can you share your numbers for this type of engine !! please. I'm curious to know how others experince this,

Thx.
