Few questions before getting car Remapped

Featured Replies

Spoke to the remapper today, but my mind went blank when asking him questions,

I have asked for the Secondary cold air intake thing to be mapped out,

but is there anything else I should ask to be mapped out while im getting it done, As I'm sure I have seen something about N75 being mapped out and something else,

I am going for around 220 BHP, only mods to the car are BlueFlame exhaust from cat back, Forge 007 Dump Valve and Carbonio CAI,

Which sparks plugs should I go for, as mine are due a change anyway so if there are better ones that would suit the remap I might aswell go for them

And I have searched Ebay for a yellow spring for my forge dump valve but cant find one, is there anywhere I can buy just a yellow spring for it ?

I'm also debating buying a decat, should I get the decat done 1st then map it, and would it effect the car putting the cat back in for MOT time ?

If your going to get a decat anyway then i'd get it b4 the remap if I was you. That way you can get the post lamda sensor mapped out so you wont get a fault code and engine management light come on. Im not sure about buying the yellow spring seperately, ive only seen them in the set of 3. Could speak to forge direct.

Although you can still get the lambda mapped out with the standard cat on if you want but it would benifit more by getting it mapped with the decat on. Also it will be fine when puttin the cat back on for mot time.

cheers guys, I will send Forge over an Email, as seems crazy buying all the springs when after this remap the car will be left as it is,

and great about the decat too, my MOT is due end of next month, so once I get the all clear I will work on getting the decat and remap done

Will the decat make the car much louder, as don't really fancy upsetting the neighbours when i go out at 4AM, cars not that loud now with the blueflame exhaust, but when I decatted my Saxo it sounded more like a Plane than a car,

220 on a stage 1 is prob a bit high

Standard downpours a massive restriction so more like 210bhp

when i had mine mapped i had

N249, 112's, SAI and Second lamba so i can decat it without any warning lights,

Am runnning standard dump valve and genuine plugs

so if I went with this I would be alright for 220 ?

so whats the benefits of them being removed, I have read about the SAI being removed, and I can blank the SAI off after its been deleted, is that the same for the others, do they need to be removed from the engine bay aswell, or is deleting them enough ?

sorry for all the questions just want to make sure I know what im doing when the time comes..

Also when you got yours mapped was it stage 1 ?

There was actually nothing wrong with mine but 1.8t are like vac pipe galore and more to go wrong, if it isn't there it won't go wrong,

I have removed the valves as i did bam manifold conversion, i still have second lamba in place and plugged in even though it doesn't do anything,

Yeah mine was shark stage 1 altho i have everything to go stage 2 now but am going to fit a TIP and tidy abit of intercooler piping up first

I'm looking at Big Fish Tuning, nothing like Shark around here, well not that I have found yet anyway.

hopefully the tuner will be able to remove the numbers you mentioned, might aswell get as much removed at the same time,

I have one of there STS boxes so i've never actually been to shark altho i would make the trip to worksop for stage 2

and the boxes can perform all the removal of the pipes and stuff ?

im guessing the boxes are quite a bit more than a standard remap ?

So does anyone know if the decat I posted above will be ok, and will it be a great increase in noise, tried to search for videos but cant really tell,

a little louder not much though

I have the same decat and a milltek resonated system. Its not loud at all but sounds good when you give it some beans ;-)

thanks that sounds perfect, I dont mind it being a bit loud when the loud pedal is down, aslong as I can pull away from my house without waking everyone up..

I have that one fitted to my VRS so yes is ok. I did have to get a the second end piece section extended to my Piper cat back system as it was not long enough plus wring diameter pipe.

This they are designed to fit std exhaust.

can see the join here

I also lagged mine

From a noise perspective, you will hear a slightly louder noise but not much and certainly not intrusive. Just a nice deeper sound.

My Blue Flame exhaust cat back was slightly to big to go over my cat so it was sleeved, so hopefully I will get lucky and it will fit ok, as I haven't a clue what diameter the blue flame was.

Going to give a few exhaust places a ring just to make sure if it doesnt fit they can make it fit, and to make it still easily removable for MOT time.. thanks for the heads up about the noise too..

ok been out on a drive today, and occasionally when I out my foot down in second the traction light flickers on for a second or 2, happened 5 or 6 times while out and wheels wasnt spinning, was in a straight line, Im sure I read somewhere about checking something if this happened but I cant find the post and I have used the search, someone mentioned maf but that was for a constant traction light, this seems to be just in second gear,

just making sure everything is running ok before I take the car to get remapped.

I know you said it wasn't spinning but. If It's only done it a few times. You might have just got a bit of diesel or something on your tyres. Roads are slippy these days anyway and I find that the loss of traction can be very subtle in these. I have decent tyres on and putting my foot down in second will always put on the light, straight line or not, I've found them pretty crap for getting the power down.

A damp road and low temps will do that.
