Second variable service less than I thought !

Featured Replies

Collected my Octavia after 2nd variable service, it is a pd 2 lt 140 hp, bill was £ 200 inc vat , two new badges fitted under warranty, with out knowing this could be done, £ 200 is more than enough to pay for this service but i was expecting more, am i wrong or is this bill about right.

It depends what was done.

If it was simply fresh oil, oil filter and a visual check then £200 is expensive.

If it was the above plus air filter, pollen filter and a fuel filter then its a good price.

An oil and filter and pollen filter should be no more than £129 (as per Skoda's Fixed Price Servicing), an air filter costs about £20 and a fuel filter about £10 plus about an hours labour (£80) so £239 ish.

If you got a brake fluid change too (£45) then you did very well.

service to manufacture spec . 2 filter elms, sump plug, cleaner, bulk Mobil and vehicle health check is quoted plus all the usual check boxes ticked with no faults found. I did say £ 200 was enough to pay, I assumed that at 33000 mls it would be a bigger service than the first service which was quoted at £ 170, done for £70 as a goodwill gesture from my dealer .

I'm on variable too.

I asked my dealer to change the oil, oil filter and pollen filter as per the £129 fixed service.

I then paid an extra £90 for an air filter and fuel filter.

Take a look here at the difference between a £129 fixed service and the £249 variable service...

£120 is lot extra for what I paid £90 for.

I asume that I did not have a minor @ £129 or a major @ £249 so could have had a minor major as no spark plugs etc as I am derv @ £200 !!!!!

€275 for mine here next week before pollen filter ffs! and that's the fixed price nonsense for first variable! :(

Mines in on Friday for 20k service. They quoted me 249 but said there's no plug change and I won't need my filter changing as I have a new k+n in there. I am on fixed service so am i getting my pants pulled down?

Think I'd print off the page Silver has provided and demand they change the plugs as per the service schedule and refund you the cost of the filter?

Mind you if you're into the pants down thing buy a Merc, they bend you over and shaft you too- My mate has a c class petrol and the service costs on that would make your eyes water!

That does say plugs changed only if required as determined by them

Wouldn't be seen dead in a merc! Lol they reckon its every 6 years for air filter and plugs- not on my nelly!!

Hmm, well I had a variable service today after 17 months and it cost £155.

Go figure

So essentially they are doing the £129 fixed service but charging you for the £249 variable service and justifying it by claiming you don't need the extra items!?

Hmmm, I think I'd be having a quiet word with the service manager!

Just had a chat with the service manager to ask what's happening with price as I was quoted 254 quid. Showed him the web page showing 249 and said I wanted all this done ( apart from air filter ) which ill be getting refunded, all was not a problem for them. Decided not to go with my local skoda and drove 20 miles to one ive used before Also getting badges done on warranty and hopefully the wheel centre caps too. Actually a good bunch down at bury st eds, maybe the other place thought I was a mug who needed the wool pulling on the phone. Unlucky- 1 customer lost!!

Well avoided!
