Something's just shredded :(

Featured Replies

Ok, so about a month or two ago I had my alternator replaced by the local garage because the spindle broke. They charged me £300.

This evening I was driving when I heard a loud rumble from the engine bay that worsened when I sped up. I lifted the hood and found that one of the belts on the alternator spindle has shredded.

Would I have a case for insisting the garage repair this and any other damage caused at their expense?

I have a pic on my iPhone of what it looks like but im not sure how to upload it on here.

A friend thinks it may be the idler pulley that was possibly not renewed when the garage fitted the new alternator. Are there two belts connected to the spindle that goes into the alternator? The main belt on the left appears to be half shredded so that's probably it, although I can't remember if there was ever a belt sitting to its right (that's where all the snarled debris has collected)

Thanks in advance :-/

Get a picture up.

But if I'd spent £300 on an alternator, and now there was something wrong with a related part.. I'd be looking at going back to the repairer.

Most garages offer a warranty with work.

Think my local is 3 months or 3000 miles.
