Power Steering Woes

Featured Replies

Hi all,

There seems to be a fair few of these posts cropping up regarding PAS. I started having problems pre-christmas but the problem disappeared as soon as I topped the steering fluid pump up (it wasn't empty, but it had reduced in level).

Symptoms have no re-appeared two months on, steering is generally heavy. I've done what most folks say, PAS fluid level hasn't budget, replaced earth strap, check battery top fuses. I'm now thinking either the angle sensor or the PAS pump is playing up. Frustratingly, no fault codes are logged so it can't be 'that' bad. No lights on the dash either.

I have however used measuring blocks of VCDS lite which shows both a decent voltage and current draw by the pump (pump is audible in operation too and doesn't sound any different). Interestingly, I get no reading on turn rate if I slowly move the wheel. (1st image). If I move the wheel rapidly, (2nd image) I do get a reading but it still feels heavy (this is stationary mind so not a great test)

Is this normal, is it just the software or does it point towards the steering angle sensor?

Thanks

Hoping somewhere has done the measuring blocks test and can comment on the above?

Thanks
