PROBLEM WITH VRS NEED HELP !

Featured Replies

i have a problem with my vrs, it has been standing in my garage for 2-3 months and i have started it and let i run 1 - 2 a week and everything is ok. But today i got the number plates for the car and i was driving for maybe 15 min and the battery light was on the whole time but it was running great and the i got home and was there for maybe 10 min. When i got to the car the battery was empty.

Then i gave the car a start and it was ok for 3 min the the abs light was on and traction control light , and it was runnig very bad and the lights in the dashboard thrived, then the airbag light came on and the fuel pedal didint work when the airbag light came on.

I have tried 2 other batterys and the same thing happend with them.

Do anyone know what i could be ??

Im sorry, my english isint that good :)

Sounds like alternator is dead or on its very last legs

+1! Way you can check is get the car running and measure the voltage across the battery, anything below 14ish and will most likely be alternator

Bad earth point? Does it eat fuses or bulbs?

Bad earth is more likely. Especially since the car has been sat up. And if the earth from the alternator itself is bad (rather than the battery), it probably won't eat either fuses or bulbs.

as above

I'd say it's the alternator, there wouldn't be alot of power in the battery if its been standing a bit.

the battery light is on so theres no charge going back into the battery it

Another shout here for alternator, it's definitely not charging if you've used 3 different batteries.

Mine went last week aswell. Had new regulator fitted and it's all good now.

thanks for the answers :) , i thougt it was the alternator but i was not sure :D

If you have a bad earth from the alternator, replacing the alternator you have is going to achieve a grand total of nothing at all.

You need to rule that out first. Of course it won't charge it there isn't a positive and negative path. These motors are riddled with known areas where the grounds do fail, and you should look to those before spending money.

Check the charging rate at alternator, should be around 14 v mark,if its ok there and not ok at the battery, fuse at battery will be melted, had this very recently with my vrs, don't assume it will be the alternator.

Again, even having done that, the earthing could still be the issue. Especially (I re-iterate) since the car has been sat up, unused, and the problem has now occured immediately after this period.
