Reappearing glow plug light

Featured Replies

When starting usually from cold I wait for the glow plug light to dissapear and then start but the glow plug light then reappears(and goes out again).

Its only started recently.

Is there anything I should be worried about?

Cheers

On a diesel VAG car the glowplug light is in the same spot as the "Check engine" light on a petrol car. So I was perplexed on my Audi when this glow plug light came on permanently. Took it to the dealer and all it was doing was telling me the brake light switch had gone and I had had NO brake lights at all! So just take it to your dealer to have it checked. Something somewhere is producing an error code.

Whether this is related ,I don't know but I had to get Skoda assit (RAC)out as the yeti wouldn't start.

He diagnosed battery failure as it was running at 12v where a fully charged battery should be 12.6v.

He then said he could fit one for £120 if he had had one in the van.

No thankyou.

Skoda wanted £114 + fitting.

I noticed on ECP that there battery finder for the car was saying I needed a 278mm length battery when the length of the OEM Skoda was 242mm

So in the end found the right size with the correct ah rating, and bought a Bosch S4 from ECP and fitted the battery myself for 1/2 the cost of the RAC.

So far, in the trip I have done this morning, the glow plug has gone out and stayed out...only time will tell if this was the problem.

Noticed Dealer fit batteries often only have a 1 or 2 year warranty.

Cost at a Honda dealer for a CRV was a reasonable £80 fitted (from a fixed price menu) so more than happy as Halfords wanted £75 and nearly didn't notice (I stopped them fitting it) that the one they tried to fit would have put a dent in the bonnet as it was too tall.

"It's the correct one in the book sir" and hadn't a clue what capacity was required.
